At Man and Van Catford we provide reliable, carefully planned furniture removals across Catford and the surrounding areas. Whether you are moving a full house, a small flat, an office, or a single bulky item, our professional team handles your furniture safely from door to door.
Specialist Furniture Removals in Catford
Furniture is often the most valuable and awkward part of any move. Our Catford team is experienced in dismantling, wrapping, carrying and transporting everything from simple flat-pack to heavy, high-value pieces. We work around tight stairs, narrow hallways and busy streets every day, so we know how to protect your items and your property.
Every move is planned so that your furniture arrives in the same condition it left, with the right equipment, vehicle size and number of movers assigned from the start.

- Office desks, chairs, filing cabinets and storage
- TV units, bookcases and shelving
- Flat-pack furniture (including dismantling and reassembly by arrangement)

For safety, legal or insurance reasons, we do not move:
- Hazardous materials (fuel, gas bottles, chemicals, paint thinners)
- Live animals or pets
- Illegal items or substances

Our Step-by-Step Furniture Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
Contact Man and Van Catford by phone or online with your moving details: addresses, access information, dates and a list or photos of your furniture. We provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on the size of the job, distance and any extra services required such as packing or dismantling.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For larger or more complex moves, we recommend a quick video call or onsite survey. This allows us to assess access, parking, staircases and any unusual items. It means we can allocate the right sized van, number of movers and time slot, reducing the risk of delays on the day.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can choose to pack smaller items yourself, or we can provide a professional packing service. For furniture, we use protective blankets, shrink wrap and mattress covers as standard. Where needed, we dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables carefully, keeping fixings safe and labelled for reassembly.
4. Loading & Transport
On moving day, our trained team arrives on time, confirms the plan with you and starts loading. We protect doors, floors and bannisters where required, and load the van methodically to prevent shifting in transit. Your furniture is then transported directly to the new address using suitable, maintained vehicles.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new property, we unload each item and place it in the rooms you request. If dismantling and reassembly were agreed, we put your furniture back together and position it properly, so you can settle in more quickly.
Transparent Pricing for Furniture Removals in Catford
We believe in clear, straightforward pricing. Our quotes are based on:
- Volume and type of furniture
- Travel distance between properties
- Access issues (stairs, lifts, parking restrictions)
- Number of movers required
- Optional services such as packing, materials and dismantling/reassembly
We provide a fixed price for the agreed work wherever possible, so you know your costs in advance. Any potential extra charges (for example, for additional stops or waiting time due to key delays) are clearly explained before you book.
Why Use Professional Furniture Removals Instead of DIY?
Moving furniture yourself or using an unregulated, casual van can seem cheaper, but it often costs more in time, stress and damage. Our professional service provides:
- Experienced handling of heavy and awkward items
- Proper equipment: trolleys, straps, blankets and protective materials
- Efficient loading and unloading that saves time and reduces risk
- Cover from goods in transit insurance and public liability
- Reliable scheduling – we turn up when we say we will
DIY moves often lead to damaged furniture, injuries or problems with building access. With Man and Van Catford, your move is planned, insured and managed by people who do this every day.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Your furniture is important, both financially and emotionally. To protect it, we maintain:
- Goods in transit insurance to cover your items while they are in our care and vehicles
- Public liability insurance to protect against accidental damage to property or third parties
- Trained moving teams who understand safe lifting, packing and loading techniques
We work to recognised industry standards, keep our vehicles well maintained and document each move so you know exactly what is happening at every stage.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat every piece of furniture as if it were our own. That means careful planning, proper wrapping, and calm, steady handling throughout the move. We also aim to operate as responsibly as possible:
- Using reusable blankets and durable protective materials
- Recycling used cardboard and packaging where possible
- Planning routes sensibly to reduce unnecessary mileage
- Offering reuse or recycling options for unwanted furniture by arrangement

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does furniture removal in Catford cost?
Pricing depends on how much furniture you have, the distance between addresses, access, and any additional services like packing or dismantling. Smaller moves or single items may be charged on an hourly basis, while larger house or office moves are usually priced as a fixed job. Once we understand your requirements, we provide a clear written quote with no hidden extras. Any possible additional costs, such as waiting time if keys are delayed, are explained before you book so you can budget confidently.
Can you offer same-day or urgent furniture removals?
Yes, we can often help with same-day or short-notice moves in Catford, especially for single items or smaller loads. Availability depends on our schedule and the size of the job, so it is best to call us as early as possible. If we can’t fit you in at the exact time requested, we will offer the nearest practical alternative. For larger house or office moves, we recommend booking in advance, but we will always try to assist with urgent situations.
Is my furniture insured during the move?
Yes. Your furniture is covered by our goods in transit insurance while it is being moved in our vehicles, and we also hold public liability insurance for work at your property. This provides protection against accidental damage in line with our policy terms. We will explain the level of cover and any exclusions when you book. For particularly high-value or fragile items, please let us know in advance so we can discuss any extra precautions or specialist handling that may be required.
What is included in your furniture removals service?
Our standard service includes loading, transport and unloading of your furniture between the agreed addresses, with items placed into the rooms you specify. We protect your goods with blankets and securing straps in the van, and can supply basic protective covers as needed. Optional extras include full or partial packing, supply of boxes and materials, dismantling and reassembly of furniture, and additional stops for collections or drop-offs. Your written quote will clearly list what is included so there are no surprises on moving day.
How is a professional removal different from a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van may simply provide transport and lifting with limited equipment or protection. Our professional removals service offers trained staff, proper insurance, planning, and the right tools for the job. We assess access, bring the correct vehicle size, use protective materials and follow safe handling techniques. This greatly reduces the risk of damage or injury, and keeps the move organised and on schedule. In many cases, the overall value and peace of mind from a professional service outweighs the small saving of using an unregulated option.
How far in advance should I book my furniture removal?
For full house or office moves, we recommend booking at least one to two weeks in advance, particularly if you need a specific date or time slot, such as a Friday or weekend. Smaller moves and single-item jobs are often easier to accommodate at shorter notice, but earlier booking always gives you more choice. If your dates are not yet fixed, we can provide a provisional quote and hold a window where possible. Even if your move is very soon, it is still worth contacting us to check current availability.

Local Catford Expertise You Can Rely On
Based in Catford, we know the local roads, traffic patterns and parking rules inside out. That local knowledge matters especially for same day moves, where timing is tight and access can be tricky.

- Typical congestion hotspots and the best routes at different times of day
- Loading and parking options for flats and estates in Catford
- How to coordinate with building managers and concierge services
Because we’re genuinely local, we can usually respond quickly and give you realistic arrival times, not guesswork.

Students
For students in and around Catford, we offer affordable, same day moves between halls, house shares and storage. Ideal for term-time changes, late arrangements or when friends with cars fall through.
What We Can and Cannot Move
Items Typically Included
Our same day removals service can usually include:
- Household furniture – beds, wardrobes, sofas, tables, chairs
- Appliances – washing machines, fridges, freezers, cookers (disconnected)
- Boxes, bags and personal belongings
- IT equipment – computers, monitors, printers
- Office furniture – desks, filing cabinets, meeting tables
- Garage and shed contents – tools, bikes, boxed items
Items Excluded or Needing Special Arrangement
For safety and insurance reasons, we cannot carry certain items on a standard booking:
- Hazardous materials – gas bottles, fuel, chemicals, paints, solvents
- Illegal or stolen goods
- Live animals or livestock
- Unboxed loose small items that may be damaged in transit
- Very high-value items (art, antiques, jewellery) without prior agreement
- Pianos, large safes or specialist machinery without advance notice
If you’re unsure whether something can be moved, ask us when you enquire. We’ll advise honestly and, where possible, suggest safe alternatives.
Our Same Day Removals Process
Even on urgent moves, we follow a clear, structured process to protect your belongings and keep things calm.
1. Enquiry & Quote
Call or message us with as much information as you have: addresses, access details, number of rooms and any large or awkward items. We’ll give you a transparent quote based on the size of the move, timings and distance. For same day work we move quickly, but we never hide costs or add surprise extras.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For many same day moves we carry out a quick virtual survey using photos or video, which is often enough to assess vehicle size, team requirements and access. For larger or more complex moves, we may send someone out if time allows. The aim is to avoid issues on the day and ensure we arrive prepared.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own items, or, where time permits, we can provide professional packing assistance. We bring blankets, straps and basic protective materials as standard to safeguard furniture and key items. We’ll talk you through what needs to be ready when we arrive so the move runs smoothly.
4. Loading & Transport
Our trained team loads systematically, protecting furniture with blankets and securing everything within the vehicle. We work efficiently but not recklessly – the priority is a safe, damage-free journey. Once loaded, we travel directly to your new property or chosen destination, using our knowledge of Catford and wider routes to minimise delays.
5. Unloading & Placement
On arrival we unload to the rooms you specify, not just to the front door. We can place furniture where you want it and will check you’re happy before we leave. We aim to leave you as settled as possible on day one, especially important on an unexpected move.
Transparent Pricing for Same Day Removals
Same day removals in Catford are priced based on:
- Volume of items and size of vehicle required
- Number of movers needed
- Distance between properties
- Access issues (stairs, long carries, parking restrictions)
- Timing (evening or late-night moves may cost more)
We normally quote a fixed price for the job so you know the cost upfront. For smaller or more flexible jobs we may suggest an hourly rate. Either way, we’ll explain clearly what is included: labour, vehicle, mileage, and basic protection. There are no hidden fuel surcharges or weekend premiums sprung on you afterwards.
Why Choose Professional Same Day Removals Over DIY
When time is tight, it can be tempting to hire a van and rope in friends. In our experience, that often leads to stress, damage and delays, especially in busy areas like Catford.
With Man and Van Catford you benefit from:
- Trained staff who move furniture and boxes every day
- Proper lifting techniques to avoid injuries and damage
- Correct loading and securing so items don’t shift in transit
- Goods in transit insurance that personal hire vans don’t provide
- Local route knowledge to avoid hold-ups and missed deadlines
Most importantly, you can focus on paperwork, keys and family, rather than wrestling with a sofa down a stairwell.
Insurance, Training and Professional Standards
We take our responsibilities seriously and operate to recognised industry standards. Our service includes:
- Goods in transit insurance – protecting your belongings while they’re in our care
- Public liability cover – in case of accidental damage to property or third parties
- Trained moving teams – experienced staff used to handling everything from flats to offices
- Well-maintained vehicles, kept clean and equipped with blankets and securing straps
We’ll explain the scope of our cover and any limits when you book so you know exactly where you stand.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
Even on urgent moves, we don’t cut corners on care. We protect furniture with blankets, stack boxes correctly and respect both your old and new property. We aim to minimise scuffs, marks and disruption to neighbours.
We also take a practical approach to sustainability:
- Using reusable protective materials rather than excessive single-use plastics
- Planning routes efficiently to reduce unnecessary mileage
- Encouraging customers to reuse boxes where safe and appropriate
Real-World Same Day Removals in Catford
Emergency Home Move
A family in SE6 had their original mover cancel the day before completion. We arranged a virtual survey that evening, allocated the right vehicle and team, and completed their move across Catford the next day without drama.
Last-Minute Office Relocation
A small business needed to vacate serviced offices within 24 hours due to a lease issue. We moved desks, chairs, filing and IT equipment into a new space nearby, allowing them to keep trading with minimal interruption.
Student Clear-Out
Two students leaving their shared house had underestimated how much they owned and left organising a move too late. We provided a same day service, moving belongings into storage and to a parents’ address, avoiding extra rent charges.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do same day removals in Catford cost?
Costs vary depending on the size of the move, distance and access, but we aim to keep pricing fair and transparent. Smaller local moves in Catford may be charged by the hour, while full flat or house moves are usually quoted at a fixed price. Factors such as stairs, long walks from parking, and evening work can affect the cost. When you contact us, we’ll ask a few practical questions and then give you a clear quote with no hidden extras.
Can you always offer same day or urgent availability?
We can’t guarantee availability for every enquiry, but because we’re local to Catford and operate multiple vehicles, we can often accommodate same day or next day moves. Early contact gives us the best chance to help, especially if you need a larger team or have a lot of belongings. If we can’t fit you in at the exact time requested, we’ll usually be able to suggest realistic alternatives later the same day or first thing the following morning.
Are my belongings insured during a same day move?
Yes. Our same day removals are covered by our standard goods in transit insurance, which protects your belongings while they’re being moved in our vehicles. We also hold public liability cover for added peace of mind. We’ll explain the key terms, any single-item limits and what’s excluded when you book. You should still let us know in advance about any particularly valuable or fragile items so we can plan appropriate handling and, if needed, discuss extra protection.
What’s included in your same day removals service?
Our service typically includes a vehicle sized to your move, a trained removals team, loading, transport, unloading to specified rooms, and basic protective materials such as blankets and straps. We can also provide packing help and materials where time allows, though for very last-minute jobs you may need to have most items boxed and ready. Parking costs, congestion charges and any special access arrangements will be discussed and agreed with you in advance so nothing comes as a surprise.
How is a professional removals service different from a casual man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van often focuses mainly on transport, whereas we offer a structured, professional removals service. That means trained staff, proper equipment, insurance, planning and clear communication. We assess access, protect furniture, load correctly and place items where you want them at the new property. For same day moves, that level of organisation is especially important because there’s less time to fix mistakes. Choosing a professional remover significantly reduces the risk of damage, delays and unexpected costs.
How far in advance do I need to book?
For planned moves, booking one to two weeks in advance is ideal, but we recognise that’s not always possible. For same day removals in Catford, contact us as early as you can on the day. The more notice we have, the easier it is to allocate the right vehicle and team. Even if you call later in the day, it’s still worth checking – we may have capacity after another job, or we can offer a first-thing-next-morning solution that still meets your deadline.

Our Step-by-Step Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us by phone, email or online form with your moving details – addresses, dates, access information and a rough idea of what needs moving. We then provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on the volume of goods, distance, access and any additional services such as packing or dismantling.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For anything more than a very small move, we recommend a virtual or onsite survey. This lets us accurately assess the size of your move, check access and parking, and discuss any fragile or unusual items. Getting this right avoids surprises on the day and helps us send the correctly sized vehicle and team.
3. Packing & Preparation
Depending on your needs, you can choose:
- Full packing service – we supply materials and pack everything for you
- Part packing – we pack fragile or awkward items, you pack the rest
- Self-packing – you pack, we provide guidance and can supply materials
We can also dismantle and reassemble certain furniture and disconnect basic appliances by prior arrangement.
4. Loading & Transport
On moving day, our professional team arrives on time, protects floors and banisters where needed, and systematically loads your belongings. Items are wrapped and secured inside the vehicle to prevent movement. We then transport your goods directly to your new address using suitable routes for speed and safety.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new property, we unload items into the rooms you specify, placing furniture where you want it. Boxes are stacked sensibly for easy unpacking. If agreed in advance, we can reassemble furniture and position white goods ready for connection. Before we leave, we check you are happy with the placement and condition of your items.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We believe in clear, upfront pricing with no hidden extras. Our quotes are based on:
- Volume and type of items to be moved
- Distance between properties
- Access, floors, and any parking restrictions
- Time of day or week (standard vs out-of-hours)
- Additional services such as packing, materials or storage
For smaller moves, we may offer a simple hourly rate with a minimum booking period. For larger moves, we usually provide a fixed price, so you know exactly what you will pay. All costs are explained clearly in writing before you commit.
Why Choose Professional Removals Over DIY
Hiring a professional removals team is often more cost-effective and far less stressful than doing it yourself or relying on an informal man-and-van.
- We bring the correct size vehicle and equipment, reducing trips and delays
- Our trained movers know how to lift, carry and load safely
- We reduce the risk of damage to your belongings and the property
- Your move is covered by goods in transit insurance (within policy limits)
- We turn up on time and complete the job as agreed
DIY moves can appear cheaper, but once you include van hire, fuel, equipment, lost time and the risk of damage or injury, a professional service is often the more sensible choice.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Man and Van Catford operates to clear, professional standards so you can move with confidence.
- Goods in transit insurance to protect your belongings while they are in our vehicle, subject to terms and declared values
- Public liability cover for peace of mind while we are working in your home or building
- Trained, experienced teams who follow safe lifting and handling practices
- Clean, well-maintained vehicles equipped for domestic removals
We are happy to explain our cover in plain language and provide details on request, so you always know where you stand.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We take the care of your belongings seriously. Furniture is wrapped and protected, fragile boxes are clearly marked and carefully stacked, and we use proper securing methods to prevent movement during transit.
Where possible, we also work in a more sustainable way by:
- Reusing and recycling packing materials where appropriate
- Using durable, reusable protective covers
- Planning routes efficiently to reduce unnecessary mileage
- Offering advice on how you can pack in a more environmentally conscious way

Office and Home-Office Relocations
For small offices and home-based businesses, we move furniture, IT equipment and files with minimal downtime. We can schedule moves outside your core hours and coordinate with your IT support where required.
Urgent and Short-Notice Moves

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a house removal in Catford cost?
The cost depends on the volume of items, distance, access and any additional services such as packing or dismantling. Smaller flat moves within Catford may be priced on an hourly rate, while full house moves are usually quoted at a fixed price. To give you an accurate figure, we ask a few questions about your property and contents, and often recommend a quick virtual survey. There are no hidden charges – parking, congestion and extra services are clearly listed in your written quote.
Can you do same-day or urgent removals?
Where our schedule allows, we can offer same-day or short-notice removals in Catford and nearby areas. Urgent moves are handled with the same care and organisation as planned jobs, but availability will depend on our existing bookings and vehicle capacity. If you need to move at short notice, contact us as early as possible with full details. We will be honest about what we can achieve and may suggest practical options such as split moves or prioritising essential items.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Your goods are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are in our care and in our vehicles, within the limits and conditions of our policy. We also have public liability cover for work carried out in and around your property. During the quote or survey stage, we will explain the key terms, ask about any especially high-value items and advise on appropriate packing. If you have your own additional cover, we are happy to work alongside it and provide any documentation required.
What is included in your house removals service?
Our standard service includes a suitable vehicle, a professional moving team, loading, transport and unloading into the rooms you specify. We provide protective blankets and securing straps as standard. Optional extras include packing services, packing materials, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and help with basic appliance positioning. We agree everything in advance, so you know exactly what we will do on the day. If you need storage, we can also arrange or recommend local facilities and transport your goods there.
How is a professional removals service different from a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van often offers simple transport only, with limited labour, equipment and no formal insurance. Our service is a structured, professional removals operation: we conduct surveys where needed, plan access and routes, use trained staff, and provide goods in transit insurance and public liability cover. We also bring the correct vehicle size, protective equipment and staffing level. This reduces the risk of damage, delays and unexpected costs, and gives you a clear, reliable plan for moving day.
How far in advance should I book my move?
Where possible, we recommend booking your Catford house removal 2–4 weeks in advance, especially for Fridays, month-ends and peak moving periods. This gives us time to arrange surveys, parking suspensions (if required) and any packing services. However, we understand that completion dates and tenancy agreements can change at short notice. If your dates are not fixed, we can pencil you in and confirm nearer the time, and we will always try to accommodate late bookings where our schedule allows.

If you’re unsure about a particular item, mention it when you enquire and we’ll confirm whether we can carry it and how it should be packed.
Our Step-by-Step Student Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
Contact us by phone, email or online with your moving dates, addresses, list of items and any time restrictions. We’ll talk through the details and provide a clear, no-obligation quote. For most student moves in Catford, we can price based on the information you give us, so you get a quick answer.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For straightforward room or small flat moves, a virtual survey (photos or video call) is usually enough. Where access is tight or you have bulkier items, we can arrange an onsite visit in Catford. This prevents surprises on moving day and allows us to send the right size vehicle and number of movers.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own belongings, or we can supply boxes and materials in advance. If required, our team can provide a professional packing service, ideal if you’re short on time around exams or work. We make sure fragile items are wrapped properly and everything is clearly labelled for easy unloading.
4. Loading & Transport
On moving day we arrive on time, confirm the plan and start loading. Floors, bannisters and doors are protected where necessary, and items are carried carefully through shared corridors and stairwells. Everything is securely positioned and strapped in the van before we head to your new address.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your destination we unload and place items into the rooms you specify – not just dump them at the door. We’re happy to position desks, beds and shelves so you can get set up quickly. Before we leave, we check you’re happy and that nothing has been left behind in the vehicle.
Transparent, Fair Pricing for Students
We understand budgets are tight, so our pricing is clear and competitive. Student removals in Catford are typically priced based on:
- Volume of items or van space required
- Number of movers needed
- Distance between addresses
- Access issues (stairs only, long carries, parking restrictions)
- Optional extras such as packing or materials
We’ll explain all costs upfront so you know exactly what you’re paying for. There are no hidden weekend or term-time surcharges – if any additional charges might apply, we tell you beforehand.
Why Use a Professional Removals Service Instead of DIY?
Borrowing a friend’s car or hiring a cheap, casual van might sound cheaper, but it often leads to repeated trips, damaged belongings and last-minute stress when people drop out. With Man and Van Catford you get:
- Trained movers used to working in tight stairwells and shared buildings
- Proper equipment – trolleys, straps, blankets and tools
- Fully insured vehicles and cover for your belongings
- Reliable timings so you don’t risk breaching tenancy check-out times
- A single, organised move instead of multiple disorganised trips
For many students, using a professional removals team is not only safer but can work out cheaper once you factor in van hire, fuel, deposits and your time.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Your possessions and peace of mind matter. Man and Van Catford operates to clear, professional standards:
- Goods in transit insurance – covering your belongings while they are being moved
- Public liability cover – protecting you and the properties we work in
- Trained moving teams – experienced in handling fragile, bulky and awkward items
- Clean, well-maintained vehicles, kept ready for student and residential moves
We behave respectfully in shared buildings, keep noise to a minimum and work around university and landlord requirements for access and parking.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We aim to move your belongings with maximum care and minimum waste:
- Use of padded blankets, straps and floor protection where needed
- Careful handling of electronics, instruments and artwork
- Re-use of strong cartons and crates where possible to reduce waste
- Encouraging customers to recycle or donate unwanted items rather than binning them
- Planned routes to reduce unnecessary mileage around Catford and beyond
This approach helps protect both your possessions and the environment.
Real-World Student Removals Scenarios
Our Catford student removals service is flexible enough to cover a range of situations:
- Moving into first-year halls – van share options with friends starting at the same university
- House share changes – moving from halls to private rentals, or between shared houses
- End-of-year clear-outs – moving belongings back home or into storage
- Office and graduate moves – helping new graduates relocate for work
- Urgent moves – responding quickly when tenancy dates change or plans fall through
Whatever your situation, we’ll work with your dates, budget and access limits to find a practical solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do student removals in Catford cost?
Costs depend mainly on how much you have to move and the distance between properties. A simple student room move within Catford will usually be priced as a small-load job, often cheaper than a standard house move. Larger flat moves or long-distance relocations will cost more. We’ll ask for a list of items, floor levels and addresses, then give you a clear price before you book. There are no hidden extras – any waiting time or additional services are explained upfront.
Can you offer same-day or urgent student removals?
Yes, we regularly help with urgent moves when tenancy dates change or other plans fall through. Same-day or next-day student removals in Catford are often possible, especially outside peak times. Availability depends on our existing bookings and the size of your move, so it’s best to call as early as you can. We’ll be honest about what’s achievable and may offer flexible time slots to fit you in safely without rushing the job.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. We provide goods in transit insurance to cover your belongings while they’re being moved in our vehicles, and public liability cover for any unlikely damage to property during the move. This is part of our standard service; you don’t need to arrange separate cover for normal household items. If you have particularly high-value belongings, such as specialist equipment or instruments, tell us in advance so we can confirm the cover in place and advise on packing.
What’s included in your student removals service?
Our service includes collection from your current address, careful loading, secure transport and unloading into your new room or property. We handle normal household and student items such as clothes, books, electronics, small furniture and kitchen equipment. We can also supply packing materials or provide a packing service for an additional fee. What’s not included are hazardous items, illegal goods and certain restricted items; we’ll outline these clearly when quoting so you know exactly what to expect.
How is a professional removals service different from a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van may offer transport only, often without proper insurance, equipment or trained staff. Our service is a professional removals operation: trained movers, fully insured cover, planned routes and clear communication. We protect your belongings, respect building rules and work to agreed times. For students, that means less risk of damage, missed check-out times or last-minute cancellations. You get a structured, reliable move rather than just a lift from A to B.
How far in advance should I book my student move?
For the best choice of dates and times, especially around the start and end of term, we recommend booking 2–3 weeks in advance. This is particularly important if you’re moving on popular days such as Saturdays or official move-in weekends. That said, we know plans change, so we’ll always try to accommodate last-minute requests where our schedule allows. The earlier you contact us, the more flexible we can be with timing and pricing.
Flat Removals
Flat Removals Catford – Professional, Reliable Flat Moves
At Man and Van Catford, we specialise in straightforward, well-organised flat removals across Catford and the surrounding areas. Whether you are moving out of a studio, a first-floor flat or a larger maisonette, our professional team knows exactly how to handle stairwells, tight corridors, lift restrictions and resident parking rules.
Expert Flat Removal Services in Catford
Moving from a flat is different from moving a house. Access is often tighter, parking can be limited and building rules can be strict. Our local Catford crew plans every move around your building layout, time restrictions and neighbours, so your move is completed efficiently and respectfully.
We provide tailored flat removals to suit your situation – from a small load with just a few pieces of furniture through to a full pack-and-move service for larger apartments.
Who Our Flat Removals Service Is For
Homeowners
If you own a flat or maisonette in or around Catford and are moving on to a new property, we can manage the entire move. We’ll coordinate timings with your completion date, protect floors and common areas, and keep your belongings secure from door to door.
Renters
We regularly help tenants moving out of rented flats. We work carefully around your landlord’s property, protect walls and staircases, and can assist with dismantling and reassembling furniture so you can hand the keys back in good condition.
Landlords
For landlords, we offer responsive flat clearance and removal support – including removing old furniture between tenancies or clearing a flat ready for refurbishment or sale. We work considerately in shared buildings to minimise disruption to other residents.
Businesses
Many small businesses now operate from flats and apartments. We handle the removal of office desks, filing, IT equipment and stock with minimal downtime. We can also move you between serviced apartments or live–work spaces.
Students
Students moving into or out of Catford flats and halls benefit from our cost-effective, smaller-load options. We can move you between term-time and home addresses, or help when you’re switching shared flats with friends.

Items Typically Included
- Sofas, armchairs and living room furniture
- Beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers and bedside tables

- White goods: washing machines, fridges, freezers (subject to access and weight)
- TVs, audio equipment, computers and small electronics
- Boxes of clothes, books, kitchenware and personal belongings

What Is Normally Excluded
To keep everyone safe and compliant, some items are not covered by our standard service:
- Hazardous materials (fuel, gas cylinders, solvents, paint, chemicals)
- Illegal or stolen goods
- Live animals and perishable food for long-distance moves
- Very high-value items (such as fine art or jewellery) without prior agreement
- Items fixed to the building structure that require specialist trades to remove

Our Step-by-Step Flat Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us by phone or online with basic details: addresses, flat floor level, lift access, parking and a rough list of items. We then provide a clear, no-obligation quote. For smaller moves we can often quote from your list and photos; for larger flats a more detailed survey is recommended.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For full flat removals, we carry out either a virtual video survey or an onsite visit in Catford. This lets us check access, understand parking restrictions, confirm which items are moving and identify anything needing special handling. The result is an accurate quotation and a realistic time plan for move day.
3. Packing & Preparation
We offer flexible packing options:
- Full packing service – our team packs your entire flat using strong boxes and quality materials.
- Part packing – we pack fragile items such as glassware, electronics and pictures.
- Self-packing – you pack; we supply packing materials on request.
On move day we protect doors, bannisters and floors where required and dismantle agreed furniture safely.
4. Loading & Transport
Our trained team loads your belongings in a logical order, using removal blankets, straps and protective covers. Everything is securely stacked to travel safely. Your goods are covered by goods in transit insurance while in our vehicles. We plan the route in advance, taking Catford traffic and access into account.
5. Unloading & Placement
On arrival, we unload room by room, placing furniture and boxes where you want them. We reassemble any items we dismantled and do a final walk-through with you to ensure nothing has been missed from the vehicle.
Transparent Pricing for Flat Removals in Catford
We believe in clear, straightforward pricing. Our quotes are typically based on:
- Volume of goods (size of your flat and how full it is)
- Access and floor level (stairs, lifts, distance to vehicle)
- Distance between addresses
- Day and time of the move
- Any additional services such as packing or storage
We will explain exactly what is included, so you know what you are paying for. There are no hidden charges for standard moves: any potential extras (such as waiting time due to delayed keys) are made clear in advance.
Why Choose Professional Flat Removals Over DIY
On the surface, hiring a van and doing it yourself can look cheaper, but the reality is often different. Professional flat removals help you avoid:
- Injury from carrying heavy furniture up and down stairs
- Damage to doorways, walls and common areas
- Multiple van trips due to underestimating space
- Stress over parking fines and building restrictions
With Man and Van Catford you get a fully insured, properly equipped team that moves flats every day. We know how to manoeuvre bulky items safely, protect your belongings and keep to agreed timings.
Insurance and Professional Standards
We take responsibility for your belongings seriously. Our services include:
- Goods in transit insurance – covering your items whilst they are in our vehicles.
- Public liability cover – protection in case of accidental damage to property or third parties.
- Trained removal teams – staff experienced in lifting, packing and navigating flats and stairwells safely.
Our vehicles are clean, well-maintained and properly equipped for removals, not general haulage. We follow industry best practice on loading, securing and transporting household goods.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
Your belongings and your building are treated with care. We use removal blankets, mattress covers, TV protectors and floor protection where required. Particular attention is paid to shared areas so that neighbours and managing agents are kept happy.
We also aim for a responsible, sustainable approach. We minimise wasted journeys, plan efficient routes around Catford, and reuse or recycle packing materials where possible. If you have unwanted furniture or items, we can suggest appropriate reuse or recycling options.
Real-World Flat Removal Scenarios We Handle
Moving Home Between Flats
Whether you’re upsizing to a larger apartment or downsizing to a studio, we handle full flat-to-flat moves in and around Catford, coordinating timings with estate agents and landlords to keep the day running smoothly.
Office and Live–Work Relocations
We help freelancers and small businesses move between live–work flats, serviced apartments and small offices, carefully packing IT equipment and confidential files, and setting up at the new address so you can get back to work quickly.
Urgent and Short-Notice Moves
Sometimes moves happen at short notice – a tenancy ending unexpectedly, a relationship change, or a flat purchase completing faster than planned. Where our schedule allows, we can provide same-day or next-day flat removal support in Catford.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a flat removal in Catford cost?
The cost depends on the size of your flat, how much you have to move, access conditions and the distance between addresses. A small studio with good access will naturally be cheaper than a fully furnished top-floor flat with no lift. We usually quote a fixed price for the whole job, based on a detailed list or survey, so you know the cost upfront. To get an accurate figure, contact us with your addresses, floor level and a rough inventory, and we’ll provide a clear written quote.
Can you do same-day or urgent flat removals?
Yes, we can often help with same-day or short-notice moves in Catford, depending on our schedule and the size of the job. Smaller moves with fewer items are usually easier to accommodate at short notice. For urgent situations, it helps if you can provide photos or a quick video of what needs moving so we can assess vehicle and staffing needs quickly. While we can’t guarantee availability for every emergency, we will always do our best to find a practical solution or offer an alternative date.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Your items are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are in our vehicles, and we carry public liability cover for work at both properties. This provides protection in the unlikely event of significant damage or loss caused by us. Normal wear and tear or items packed poorly by others may not be covered, so we always recommend using proper packing materials and, where possible, our packing service for fragile items. We’re happy to explain our cover in detail and answer any specific questions before you book.
What exactly is included in your flat removals service?
Our standard service includes supplying a suitable vehicle, a professional removals team, protective blankets and equipment, loading at your old flat, transport, then unloading and placement at your new address. By prior agreement we can also dismantle and reassemble basic furniture, and offer full or part packing services. Packing materials, storage and specialist handling (for example, pianos or very heavy items) are available as optional extras. Everything included in your particular move will be listed clearly in your written quote so there are no surprises on the day.
What’s the difference between your service and a casual man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van may be fine for a single item, but for a full flat removal you benefit from a dedicated removals company. We provide trained staff, suitable vehicles, the right equipment and full insurance. Our team knows how to pack, stack and protect your belongings properly, and how to work safely in shared stairwells and corridors. You also receive a written quote, confirmed booking time and clear terms, so you’re not relying on someone who may cancel or arrive unprepared on the day.
How far in advance should I book my flat removal?
For the best choice of dates, most people book one to three weeks in advance, especially if you’re moving at the end of the month or on a weekend, when demand is highest. However, we understand completion dates and tenancy agreements can change, so we try to be as flexible as possible. If your date isn’t confirmed yet, we can provide an estimate and pencil you in. For last-minute moves, contact us as soon as you know your plans and we’ll offer the earliest available slot.

Our Step-by-Step Man with Van Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us with your addresses, dates, and a list of what needs to be moved. We ask a few practical questions about access, floors, parking, and any fragile or awkward items. Based on this, we provide a clear, no-obligation quote before you commit.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For straightforward jobs, a detailed phone or video call is enough. For larger or more complex moves, we can arrange a short onsite or virtual survey. This helps us decide the right size van, how many movers to send, and how long the job will take, so there are no surprises on the day.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own boxes, or we can supply professional packing materials in advance. If you prefer, we also offer a packing service, where our trained team carefully packs and labels your belongings. Before moving day, we confirm timings, parking arrangements and any special requirements.
4. Loading & Transport
On the day, our trained movers arrive on time, protect key items with blankets and straps, and load the van systematically to prevent damage in transit. We use trolley and lifting equipment where needed and transport your belongings using planned routes to avoid unnecessary delays.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new address, we unload and place furniture and boxes into the rooms you choose. We work with you to position bulky items safely and will not leave until the van is empty and you are satisfied everything that should have arrived, has arrived.
Transparent Man with Van Pricing
We believe in straightforward, honest pricing. For most man with van jobs, we charge either:
- An hourly rate (minimum booking period), or
- A fixed price based on distance, volume and access
Your quote will clearly state what is included: vehicle, number of movers, estimated time, and any additional services such as packing or extra stops. There are no hidden call-out fees or surprise extras; any potential additional costs (such as congestion or parking charges) are explained in advance where possible.
Why Choose a Professional Man with Van Over DIY
Hiring a van yourself or asking a friend with a van can look cheaper on paper, but it often costs more in time, effort and risk. With a professional man with van in Catford you get:
- Experienced movers who know how to handle furniture safely and efficiently
- Proper tools, trolleys and protective materials to reduce damage
- Goods in transit insurance for your belongings
- A fully insured business with checks, procedures and accountability
- Less time off work and less physical strain for you and your family
This is especially important in busy areas like Catford, where access, parking and stairs can make moving far more challenging than expected.
Insurance and Professional Standards
We take our responsibility for your belongings seriously. Man and Van Catford operates with:
- Goods in transit insurance to protect your items while they are in our care
- Public liability cover in case of accidental damage to property or third parties
- Trained moving teams with guidance on lifting, packing and safe driving
We follow sensible procedures for handling fragile and high-risk items and we will always explain any limitations or requirements clearly before the job starts.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat every move as if it were our own belongings. Furniture and appliances are protected with blankets and straps, and we take care when moving items through tight doorways and communal areas.
Where possible, we use reusable protective materials and durable crates, and we plan routes to reduce unnecessary mileage. When clients no longer need certain items, we can suggest local charities, reuse schemes or recycling options in and around Catford, rather than simply sending everything to landfill.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a man with van in Catford cost?
Costs depend on the size of van required, the number of movers, distance between addresses and how long loading and unloading will take. For smaller local moves in Catford we usually price by the hour with a minimum booking period, while longer-distance jobs are often fixed price. To keep your costs down, have everything packed and ready, reserve parking where possible and provide a clear list of items. We will always give you a clear quote in advance so you know exactly what to budget for.
Can you do same-day or urgent man with van bookings?
Yes, we often can, depending on our schedule and the size of the job. If you need a same-day or urgent move in Catford, call us as early as possible with details of what needs moving and the addresses involved. We will check vehicle and crew availability and give you a realistic arrival window. Urgent bookings may carry a minimum charge or slightly higher rate to cover rearranged schedules, but we will confirm all costs before you decide to go ahead.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Your items are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are in our vehicle, subject to policy terms and conditions. We also hold public liability cover for peace of mind in case of accidental damage to property or third parties. We will explain any exclusions, such as unboxed fragile items or contents you pack yourself without suitable protection. If you have particularly high-value or delicate items, please mention them in advance so we can advise on the best way to protect them.
What is included in your man with van service?
Our standard service includes a suitable van, an experienced driver–porter, fuel, loading and unloading of normal household or office items, and transport from your old address to your new one. We place furniture and boxes into the rooms you choose and protect items with blankets and straps in transit. Optional extras include packing materials, a packing service, additional movers, multiple pick-up or drop-off points, and help with dismantling and reassembly of basic furniture where agreed beforehand.
What is the difference between your service and a casual man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van might simply turn up with a vehicle and lift what they can. As a professional Catford removals company, we provide trained staff, proper planning, insurance, and clear terms of service. We use the right equipment, protect your belongings, and have the experience to deal with stairs, tight doorways and parking restrictions. You also have a formal booking, a written quote and a business that is accountable if something goes wrong. In short, you get reliability and protection that casual operators rarely offer.
How far in advance should I book?
For weekend or month-end moves, it is best to book at least one to two weeks in advance, as these dates fill quickly in Catford. For mid-week or off-peak times, we can often accommodate shorter notice. If you have a fixed completion date, let us know as soon as possible, even if times are not confirmed yet. We can hold a provisional slot and adjust as your plans firm up. For last-minute moves, always call – we will help if we possibly can.
Piano Removals
Piano Removals Catford – Specialist Local Piano Moving Service
Specialist Piano Removals by Man and Van Catford
Moving a piano is nothing like moving normal furniture. It is heavy, delicate, and finely balanced, with thousands of parts that can be easily damaged if handled incorrectly. At Man and Van Catford, we provide a dedicated piano removals service in Catford and surrounding areas, using the right equipment, trained teams and careful planning to move your instrument safely.
Whether you own a treasured family upright, a rehearsal room piano, or a baby grand in a performance space, we treat every instrument with the same level of care and respect, from first enquiry through to final placement.
Local Piano Moving Expertise in Catford
Operating from Catford, we know the local streets, parking restrictions and typical building layouts extremely well. That local knowledge makes a real difference when moving a piano through:
- Narrow terraced-house hallways and staircases
- Flats with limited lift access
- Basement and loft conversions
- Busy main roads and controlled parking zones
We plan access carefully, check loading points and work with you (and, where needed, neighbours or building managers) to ensure a smooth, efficient move that minimises disruption.
Who Our Piano Removals Service Is For
Our Catford piano removals service is suitable for:
- Homeowners upgrading, downsizing or moving house with their piano
- Renters moving between flats or house shares where access can be tight
- Landlords needing pianos removed or relocated between properties
- Businesses such as schools, studios, churches and venues
- Students at music colleges or universities moving term-time accommodation
Whether your move is across Catford, elsewhere in London, or further afield within the UK, we can provide a tailored solution.
What’s Included in Our Piano Removals Service
Items and Services Included
Our standard piano removals service typically includes:
- Upright pianos – all standard sizes
- Digital pianos and electric stage pianos (including stands and pedals)
- Baby grand and grand pianos (where access and preparation allow)
- Protective padding, blankets and securing straps
- Use of piano skates, dollies, and trolleys where suitable
- Careful wrapping of vulnerable areas (keys, pedals, corners)
- Loading, secure transport and unloading at the new address
- Placement of the piano in your chosen room and position, where access permits
What Is Not Included
To keep things clear and transparent, the following are generally not included in a standard piano move, but may be arranged or advised on where possible:
- Internal tuning or mechanical repairs (we can recommend local tuners and technicians)
- Removal of windows, doors or structural alterations by other trades
- Hoisting or craning through windows where access is impossible via stairs (specialist partners may be required)
- Long-term storage (short-term options may be available on request)
- Moving other household goods – this can be added as a full removals service if needed
We will always discuss any unusual access, very tight stairwells or high-value instruments during the survey so you know exactly what is and is not possible safely.
Our Step-by-Step Piano Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You get in touch with us by phone or online with brief details of your piano, both addresses and any access concerns. We will ask for information such as:
- Type and approximate size of the piano
- Number of steps or floors at each property
- Lift access, if any
- Parking availability near the entrance
Based on this, we provide a clear, no-obligation quote explaining what is included and any potential additional charges for complex access.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For more complex moves – especially grands, basement or upper-floor locations – we arrange a virtual or onsite survey. This allows us to:
- Assess staircases, turns, and doorway widths
- Identify any obstacles such as radiators or tight corners
- Confirm the number of team members and equipment required
This step ensures there are no surprises on the day and allows us to give you a realistic assessment of what can be done safely.
3. Packing & Preparation
On moving day, our trained team will:
- Protect floors and carpets where necessary
- Wrap the piano in thick removal blankets and/or specialised covers
- Secure lids and moving parts
- Use skids, skates or boards to protect thresholds and steps
For certain grands, we may need to carefully remove legs and the lyre (pedal section) before moving. All parts are wrapped and labelled for safe transport and reassembly.
4. Loading & Transport
The instrument is then moved using appropriate lifting techniques and equipment into our fully insured removal vehicle. We:
- Secure the piano to the vehicle’s anchor points
- Ensure it cannot shift during transit
- Protect it from contact with other items on board
Our professional drivers take extra care with routes, speed and road conditions to minimise jolts and vibration.
5. Unloading & Placement
At the destination, we reverse the process just as carefully, positioning the piano in your chosen room and final spot wherever physically possible. We will:
- Consult you on exact placement
- Make minor adjustments to position within the room if access allows
- Remove our protective coverings and tidy up before leaving
We recommend allowing the piano to settle and then arranging tuning, especially after a long-distance move.
Transparent Pricing for Piano Removals in Catford
Our pricing is straightforward and based on:
- Type and size of piano (upright, digital, baby grand, grand)
- Access difficulty (steps, tight turns, lack of lift, distance to vehicle)
- Distance between properties
- Additional services required (evening work, multiple stops, combined house move)
We will always give you a clear breakdown before you book so you know what you are paying for. There are no hidden charges; any potential extras, such as extensive stairs or unusual access, are explained in advance.
Why Use Professional Piano Movers Instead of DIY
Pianos are not just heavy; they are complex, finely tuned instruments. Attempting a DIY move with friends or a casual van can lead to:
- Injury to you or helpers due to weight and awkward shape
- Damage to the piano’s cabinet, keys or internal mechanism
- Damage to floors, walls, banisters and door frames
- Insurance not covering amateur moves
By using a professional piano removals team, you gain:
- Specialist handling and equipment
- Fully insured transport
- Experienced staff who move pianos regularly
- Less stress and disruption for you and your household or business
Insurance and Professional Standards
Man and Van Catford operates to high standards of care and safety. Our service includes:
- Goods in transit insurance to protect your piano while it is in our vehicle

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a piano removal in Catford cost?
The cost of a piano removal depends mainly on the type of piano, access at each property and distance travelled. Upright and digital pianos with straightforward ground-floor access are typically at the lower end of the scale, while grands or pianos on upper floors with tight stairs cost more due to additional labour and time. We price each job individually after asking a few key questions, and for more complex moves we may carry out a brief survey. You will always receive a clear quotation before booking.
Can you do same-day or urgent piano removals?
Same-day or urgent piano removals are sometimes possible, depending on our schedule, the type of piano and access requirements. Uprights and digital pianos with simple access are easier to accommodate at short notice. More complex moves, especially grands or upper-floor locations, usually require more planning and may not be available on a same-day basis. If you need an urgent move, contact us as early as you can with full details; we will always be honest about what is realistically and safely achievable.
Is my piano insured during the move?
Yes. Your piano is covered by our goods in transit insurance while it is being transported in our vehicle, and we hold public liability cover for work in and around your property. Insurance is there to provide peace of mind in the unlikely event something goes wrong. We still focus on prevention first: careful surveys, proper equipment and experienced, professional staff. If your piano is particularly valuable, it is wise to check your own insurer’s requirements as well, and we can supply confirmation of our cover.
What is included in your piano removals service?
Our service includes planning, protective wrapping, lifting, loading, transport and careful placement of your piano in the new location wherever access allows. We provide all necessary moving equipment such as blankets, skates and straps, plus a suitably sized vehicle and trained staff. We can also combine the piano move with a wider household or office removal if required. What is not included as standard are tuning, repairs, structural alterations or window removals, though we may be able to recommend trusted local specialists for those aspects.
What is the difference between your service and a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van service may be fine for simple boxes or small furniture, but pianos require specific skills, insurance and equipment. Our piano removals are carried out by professional teams who are used to moving large and delicate instruments. We assess access carefully, use specialised protection and lifting techniques, and our work is fully insured. A basic man-and-van may not have the experience or cover to handle the risks involved, leaving you exposed to potential damage to your piano, property and personal safety.
How far in advance should I book a piano removal?
For the best choice of dates, particularly at weekends or during busy moving periods, we recommend booking your piano removal at least one to two weeks in advance. This is especially important for grands or any move involving awkward access, as we may need to carry out a survey and allocate additional staff. However, we understand that moves are not always predictable, so if you have a shorter timescale, contact us as soon as you can. We will do our best to accommodate you within our existing schedule.
Man and a Van
Man and a Van Catford – Local, Reliable Moving Service
At Man and Van Catford, our man and a van service is designed for people who want a flexible, professional move without the cost or complexity of a full-scale removals crew. You get an experienced local driver–loader, the right size van, and the reassurance that everything is fully insured and handled by a trained, professional team.
What Our Man and a Van Service Includes
Our service bridges the gap between a casual “mate with a van” and a full removals team. We provide:
- A modern, clean Luton or panel van with securing straps and blankets
- A skilled driver who also helps with loading and unloading
- Optional extra porters for heavier or larger moves
- Short-distance and long-distance moves from Catford
- Goods in transit insurance for your belongings
- Public liability cover for work at your property
This is ideal when you don’t need a full-size removal lorry but you still expect punctuality, care and accountability.
Local Expertise in Catford and Surrounding Areas
Being based in Catford means we know the local streets, parking restrictions and building layouts extremely well. From Corbett Estate terraces and Catford Green flats to Lewisham, Forest Hill, Bromley and beyond, we plan routes and access points carefully to keep your move efficient and stress-free.
We regularly work with local agents, landlords and building managers, so we understand how to handle key collections, loading bays and tight move-in windows across Catford and the wider South East London area.
Who Our Man and a Van Service Is For
Homeowners
Perfect for smaller house moves, downsizing, or moving a selection of larger items such as beds, wardrobes and white goods when you don’t need a full removal crew.
Renters
Whether you’re moving between flats, studios or house shares, our man and a van option keeps costs sensible while still giving you a professional, organised move.
Landlords
We help landlords clear or furnish properties, remove old furniture, and move items between addresses with minimal disruption to tenants.
Businesses
Ideal for small office moves, moving stock, equipment, or archive material. We can offer out-of-hours moves to reduce downtime and disruption to your trading.
Students
Students moving to or from Catford, Lewisham or nearby universities can share the cost and still benefit from a fully insured and reliable service instead of struggling with public transport or multiple car trips.
What We Can Move
Our man and a van teams handle most day-to-day household and light commercial items, including:
- Sofas, armchairs, tables and chairs
- Beds, mattresses, wardrobes and chests of drawers
- Fridges, freezers, washing machines and other white goods
- Boxes, suitcases, bags and plastic crates
- Office desks, chairs, filing cabinets and IT equipment
- Sports equipment, bikes and hobby items
Items We Cannot Take
For safety, legal or insurance reasons, there are items we are unable to carry, such as:
- Hazardous materials (fuel, gas cylinders, chemicals, paints, solvents)
- Explosives, firearms or ammunition
- Industrial machinery that requires specialist lifting
- Live animals (except by prior arrangement for short, simple journeys)
- Perishable food for long journeys
- High-value items such as fine art or jewellery without prior declaration
If you are unsure about a particular item, ask us when you enquire so we can advise or suggest alternatives.
Our Step-by-Step Man and a Van Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us with basic details: where you are moving from and to, approximate inventory, dates and any access notes. We provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on the information you give, including any waiting time or congestion charges if applicable.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For most man and a van jobs, a quick virtual survey (photos or video call) is enough. For larger moves or awkward access, we can offer an onsite visit in Catford and nearby areas. This helps us choose the right van size, number of movers and equipment so everything fits in a single planned trip where possible.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own boxes, or ask about our packing service for an additional charge. Either way, we advise on labelling, protecting fragile items and dismantling furniture in advance where needed. On the day, we bring blankets, straps and basic tools to help protect and, if agreed, dismantle or reassemble simple items.
4. Loading & Transport
Our team arrives on time, carries out a quick walk-through and plans the loading order. Heavy and bulky items go in first, secured with straps and blankets. Boxes and lighter items are stacked safely. Once loaded, we travel via the most efficient route, factoring in London traffic, parking and any time restrictions at your new address.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your destination, we unload to the rooms you specify, not just to the front door. We place furniture where you want it and stack boxes in a logical way so you can unpack more easily. Before leaving, we do a final check of the van and property with you to ensure nothing has been left behind.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We price our Catford man and a van service either by the hour or as an agreed fixed rate, depending on the job. Your quote will clearly show:
- The number of movers included
- The size of van
- Minimum hire time (if any)
- Travel time or mileage charges, if applicable
- Any extra services such as packing or furniture assembly
There are no hidden extras. If factors change – for example, you add extra pick-ups, or access is significantly different to what was described – we will discuss any price adjustment with you before proceeding.
Why Choose Professional Man and a Van Over DIY
Using a professional removals company rather than doing it yourself or hiring an unvetted van driver offers several advantages:
- Trained, professional movers who know how to lift safely and protect your property
- Fully insured service, unlike many casual operators
- Proper equipment: blankets, straps, trolleys and tools
- Reduced risk of injury to you or damage to your belongings
- Reliable timings and proper communication before and during the move
DIY may seem cheaper at first glance, but fuel costs, van hire, parking fines, damage and the physical strain often mean it is not as economical – or as safe – as it appears.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Every move carried out by Man and Van Catford is backed by the right cover and standards:
- Goods in transit insurance to protect your belongings while they are in our care
- Public liability cover for work in and around your property
- Trained moving teams who follow safe lifting and handling practices
- Signed terms and conditions so you know exactly where you stand
We treat your home, building and belongings with the same care we would expect in our own properties, and we are happy to explain what is covered and any limits or exclusions before you confirm your booking.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We focus on protecting both your belongings and the environment:
- Use of high-quality furniture blankets and straps to prevent scratches and scuffs
- Careful protection of floors, walls and doorways in communal areas
- Reusable crates and packing materials available on request
- Route planning to minimise unnecessary mileage and emissions
- Maintaining our vehicles for fuel efficiency and reliability
Where possible, we reuse, recycle or responsibly dispose of materials to reduce waste. If you have unwanted items, we can advise on local donation and recycling options around Catford.
Common Man and a Van Use Cases
Moving House or Flat
Smaller moves, part-loads or staged moves (for example, putting some items into storage and the rest into your new place) are well suited to our man and a van service. We can also work alongside a larger removals crew if you have a complex move.
Office and Business Relocations
From solo traders to small offices, we move desks, chairs, stock and equipment with minimal disruption. Evening and weekend slots are often available, helping you keep trading during normal hours.
Urgent and Same-Day Moves
When a move is unexpected – end-of-tenancy, relationship changes, or a last-minute completion – we do our best to accommodate same-day or next-day bookings in and around Catford, subject to availability. Calling us as early as possible gives the best chance of securing a suitable slot.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a man and a van in Catford cost?
Pricing depends on the size of van, number of movers, distance travelled and the estimated duration of the job. Smaller local moves in Catford can often be done on an hourly rate, while longer or more complex moves are usually priced as a fixed quote. Your quote will clearly state what is included, such as loading, unloading and basic protection. To keep costs accurate, give us as much detail as possible about access, stairs and parking so we can plan the right team and time.
Can you provide same-day or urgent man and a van bookings?
We can often accommodate same-day or next-day moves in Catford, particularly on weekdays, but it depends on existing bookings and the size of your job. Urgent moves work best when you can be flexible on timing and van size. Call or email us with your details and we’ll quickly confirm availability and pricing. Where we can’t help directly, we’ll be honest and, if possible, suggest alternative dates or a scaled-down solution to cover your most urgent items.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Our man and a van service includes goods in transit insurance for your belongings while they are in our vehicle, as well as public liability cover for work at your property. Like any policy, there are limits and exclusions – for example, very high-value or fragile items may need to be declared in advance. We are happy to outline the cover in plain language before you book so you can decide whether you need any additional insurance of your own.
What is included in a man and a van service?
Our standard service includes the van, a professional driver–loader, fuel for the agreed journey, loading and unloading, and protective blankets and straps. We place items in the rooms you choose and handle normal lifting and carrying. Optional extras, such as additional porters, packing services, furniture dismantling and reassembly, or extra pick-ups and drop-offs, can be added at an agreed cost. Your quote will spell out exactly what’s included so you know what to expect on the day.
How is a professional man and a van different from a full removals service?
Our man and a van option is best for smaller or simpler moves, typically using one van and one or two movers. A full removals service uses a larger crew, often multiple vehicles, and usually includes more planning, detailed inventories and sometimes full packing. Man and a van is more flexible and cost-effective for modest loads, but still professional and fully insured. If you’re unsure which you need, tell us your inventory and timings and we’ll advise on the most suitable approach.
How far in advance should I book?
For weekends, month-end and peak moving seasons, we recommend booking your man and a van at least one to two weeks in advance, especially if your timing is tight. For midweek and off-peak dates, a few days’ notice is often enough. That said, we always try to help with late bookings where our schedule allows. The earlier you contact us, the more choice you’ll have on start times, van size and any additional services like packing or extra porters.

Our service is designed to cover everything you need for a smooth, stress-free move, without paying for extras you do not use. A typical man and van booking includes:
- One or more professional movers with a clean, modern van
- Collection from your home, flat, office or storage unit

- Unloading and placement in the rooms you choose

For larger or more complex moves we can also provide full house removals, office relocations and packing services. We will advise you honestly on the most suitable option once we understand your requirements.
Local Expertise in Catford and Surrounding Areas
Being based in Catford means we know the local streets, estates and parking restrictions very well. This makes a real difference on moving day. We understand the challenges of:
- Top-floor flats with no lifts on Catford Road, Rushey Green and the surrounding streets
- Permit parking and loading bays near Catford and Catford Bridge stations
- Narrow residential roads and controlled parking zones across SE6
- Estate moves and council properties around the Ravensbourne and Bellingham areas
We plan access in advance, arrive prepared with the right equipment, and liaise with you about parking so that moving day runs on time and with minimal disruption.

Renters
Whether you are moving between rented flats, downsizing, or relocating for work, we regularly help tenants clear properties quickly while keeping within landlord requirements and check-out times.

Our Step-by-Step Man and Van Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us by phone, email or online form with your move details: addresses, dates, property size, list of main items and any access issues. We then provide a clear, no-obligation quote, either at a fixed price or hourly rate depending on the job.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For smaller moves, a quick phone or video survey is usually enough. For larger homes, offices or more complex access, we may arrange an onsite survey in Catford or nearby areas. This allows us to assess parking, stairs, lift access and any dismantling requirements so we send the right van size and team.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own belongings, or we can provide a packing service with materials supplied. We recommend everything is boxed and labelled before we arrive. On moving day we protect key items with blankets, covers and shrink wrap where needed, and we can dismantle and reassemble straightforward furniture such as bed frames and tables.
4. Loading & Transport
Our trained movers load your belongings carefully, stacking and strapping them inside the van to prevent movement in transit. We plan the route in advance, taking into account traffic, roadworks and any time restrictions. Your goods are protected by our goods in transit insurance while on board our vehicles.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your destination we unload into the rooms you specify, placing items where you want them. We can reassemble previously dismantled items and position larger furniture to your instructions. Before leaving, we carry out a quick walk-through with you to ensure nothing has been left on the van.
Transparent Pricing – How Our Man and Van Rates Work
We believe in clear, upfront pricing with no hidden extras. Our man and van service in Catford is usually charged in one of two ways:
- Hourly rate – ideal for small local moves, student moves or single items
- Fixed price – better for full property moves, longer distances or when you want certainty on cost
Our quote will specify what is included: number of movers, van size, estimated duration, and any additional services such as packing or furniture assembly. Parking charges, congestion and tolls (if applicable) will be clearly explained in advance so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Why Choose Professional Man and Van Over DIY
Hiring a professional man and van service is often safer, quicker and more cost-effective than doing it yourself or using an unregulated casual operator. With us you benefit from:
- Trained movers who know how to handle heavy and fragile items safely
- Proper equipment – trolleys, straps, blankets and protective covers
- Goods in transit insurance and public liability cover
- Well-maintained vehicles with the right capacity for your move
- Efficient loading and unloading that saves time and reduces risk of damage
DIY moves often result in injuries, damaged furniture, multiple journeys and unexpected costs. A professional man and van service in Catford gives you peace of mind and allows you to focus on settling into your new property.
Insurance and Professional Standards
As a responsible removals provider, we operate to clear standards and hold appropriate insurance:
- Goods in transit insurance – covers your belongings while they are on our vehicles, subject to policy terms and conditions
- Public liability cover – protects against accidental damage to property or third parties during the move
- Trained moving teams – our staff are instructed in safe lifting techniques, protective packing and customer care
We are happy to provide evidence of our insurance and answer any questions you have about cover limits or exclusions before you book.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat your belongings and your property with the same care we would our own. Floors, doors and bannisters are protected where necessary, and furniture is wrapped or covered to minimise risk of damage. We plan lift and stair use to avoid unnecessary scuffs and wear.
We are also conscious of our environmental impact. Wherever possible we:
- Use reusable protective materials and durable packing crates on request
- Encourage the reuse and recycling of boxes and packing materials
- Plan routes to reduce unnecessary mileage and fuel consumption
By combining efficient planning with careful handling, we help you move in a way that is both safe and more sustainable.
Real-World Use Cases for Our Man and Van Service
Moving House in Catford
From terraced houses around Blythe Hill to flats near Catford town centre, we handle full and part moves throughout SE6. Many clients use our man and van service when downsizing, separating out storage items, or moving a portion of their belongings ahead of a main move.
Office and Business Relocations
We move desks, chairs, filing cabinets, stock and equipment for small offices, shops and self-employed professionals. Weekend and evening moves are available by arrangement to minimise business downtime.
Urgent and Same-Day Moves
Situations change quickly – a tenancy may end suddenly, or you may need to get items out of a property at short notice. Where our schedule allows, we offer same-day and next-day man and van bookings in Catford and nearby areas. Call us as early as possible and we will do our best to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a man and van service in Catford cost?
The cost depends on several factors: the amount of furniture and boxes, the number of movers required, access at each property, and the distance travelled. Smaller local moves are often charged at an hourly rate with a minimum booking period, while larger or longer-distance moves are usually quoted at a fixed price. To give an accurate figure we ask a few questions about your move or arrange a quick survey. All quotes are transparent, with any additional costs such as parking or tolls clearly explained in advance.
Can you provide same-day or urgent man and van bookings?
Yes, where availability allows we do offer same-day and short-notice moves in Catford and the surrounding areas. Our ability to help will depend on the size of the move, the time of your call and our existing bookings. Smaller jobs with fewer items are usually easier to accommodate at short notice. If you need an urgent move, contact us by phone for the fastest response and we’ll let you know what options we have, including approximate arrival times and likely duration, before confirming your booking.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Your goods are protected by our goods in transit insurance while they are on our vehicles, subject to the terms and limits of the policy. We also hold public liability cover in case of accidental damage to property or third parties during the move. There are some exclusions, such as certain high-value items and fragile goods not properly packed. We always recommend you tell us about any particularly valuable or delicate items in advance so we can advise on protection and confirm the level of cover. Policy details are available on request before you book.
What exactly is included in your man and van service?
Our standard service includes a suitable van, one or more professional movers, loading at the collection address, safe transport to your destination, and unloading into the rooms you choose. We provide moving blankets, straps and basic protection for furniture. On request, we can also offer additional services such as packing, supplying packing materials, and straightforward furniture dismantling and reassembly. Parking charges and any congestion or toll fees are normally passed on at cost, but these will always be explained clearly in your quote so you know what is and isn’t included.
What’s the difference between removals and a man and van service?
A traditional removals service typically involves a larger team, bigger vehicles, full packing options and more detailed planning, often used for whole-house moves or sizeable offices. A man and van service is more flexible and better suited to smaller moves, partial loads, student moves or single-item deliveries. With Man and Van Catford you get the best of both worlds: the flexibility and pricing of man and van, combined with the professional standards, insurance and experience of a removals company. We will always advise objectively which option is most suitable for your situation.
How far in advance should I book?
To secure your preferred date and time, especially at weekends and month-ends, we recommend booking at least one to two weeks in advance. However, we understand that moves are not always predictable, and we do our best to accommodate late bookings where our schedule allows. For larger property moves or office relocations, a longer lead time helps with surveys, planning and parking arrangements. If you have a fixed completion date approaching, contact us as soon as possible so we can pencil you in and finalise details once your plans are confirmed.

If you are unsure about a specific item, let us know during your enquiry and we will advise.
Local Catford Expertise
Working daily in Catford and the surrounding SE6, SE4 and SE13 postcodes means we understand local traffic patterns, parking restrictions and building layouts. We know the difference between accessing a terraced house off Bromley Road at rush hour and a high-rise flat near Catford Bridge with restricted loading bays.
This local knowledge allows us to plan realistic arrival times, select appropriate vehicles for narrow streets, and advise you on parking suspensions or permits if needed. It all adds up to a more predictable moving day.
Step-by-Step Removal Van Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
Everything starts with a clear, no-obligation quote. You can contact us by phone, email or online form. We will ask about your current property, your destination, access issues, number of rooms and any particularly heavy or delicate items.
Based on this, we recommend the right size removal van and team, estimate the duration of the job, and provide a transparent price with no hidden extras for standard work.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For larger or more complex moves in Catford, we may suggest a short virtual or onsite survey. This helps us:
- Check access (stairs, lifts, parking and loading distances)
- Assess volume – how much space you will need in the van(s)
- Identify fragile, high-value or awkward items
- Plan any dismantling or reassembly requirements
This step ensures the right resources are allocated so moving day runs smoothly.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can choose between:
- Packing service – We supply materials and our trained team packs your items securely.
- Self-packing – You pack your own boxes; we provide guidance on best practice if needed.
On the day, we protect furniture with blankets and covers, wrap delicate pieces, and secure everything properly before loading. Appliances are disconnected in advance (by you or a qualified engineer), ready for safe transport.
4. Loading & Transport
Our team carefully loads your possessions in a logical order, balancing weight and protecting fragile items. We use straps, blankets and floor protection where appropriate. Once loaded, we head directly to your new address, using routes that suit a loaded removal van rather than simply the quickest car route.
For Catford moves, we factor in local traffic hotspots and school times to minimise delays where possible.
5. Unloading & Placement
On arrival, we unload room by room and place items where you want them, not just in the hallway. We can reassemble furniture we dismantled at your original address and position heavier items so you do not need to move them later.
We finish with a brief walk-through to confirm everything is in the right place and nothing has been left on the van.
Transparent Pricing for Removal Van Hire in Catford
We keep pricing straightforward and transparent. Our quotes are usually based on:
- Size and number of removal vans required
- Number of movers needed (e.g. one, two or three-person team)
- Estimated duration of the job
- Distance between properties
- Any optional extras such as packing, materials or storage
You will receive a clear written estimate detailing what is included. We explain any potential additional charges (such as extended waiting time caused by key delays) in advance, so there are no surprises on the day.
Why Choose a Professional Removal Van Service Over DIY
Hiring a van and doing it yourself can seem cheaper, but it often costs more in time, stress and risk. With Man and Van Catford you benefit from:
- Trained movers who know safe lifting and loading techniques
- Proper protective equipment and fixing straps to prevent damage in transit
- Experience navigating Catford’s streets, estates and parking restrictions
- Reduced risk of injury from heavy lifting or awkward staircases
- More efficient loading, typically needing fewer trips
Most importantly, you enjoy peace of mind knowing your belongings are handled by a professional, fully insured removal company, not casual labour or friends doing you a favour.
Insurance & Professional Standards
We take our responsibilities seriously and operate to clear professional standards.
- Goods in transit insurance – Protects your belongings while they are in our removal van, subject to policy terms and declared values.
- Public liability cover – Covers accidental damage to property or third parties while we are working on-site.
- Trained moving teams – Our staff are experienced, briefed on each job, and trained in safe handling and customer care.
We will happily explain our cover levels and responsibilities so you know exactly where you stand. For particularly high-value items, we can discuss additional precautions or specialist arrangements.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat your belongings and property with the same care we would want for our own. Floors, doors and bannisters can be protected where necessary, and furniture is wrapped or blanketed for transit. We use stable loading methods to minimise movement and avoid avoidable damage.
From a sustainability perspective, we aim to reduce waste and unnecessary mileage. We reuse durable packing materials where suitable, encourage responsible recycling of unwanted items, and plan routes efficiently. Our aim is to move you efficiently while minimising our environmental footprint around Catford and beyond.
Real-World Uses of Our Catford Removal Vans

Occasionally, life does not give you much warning. Where availability allows, we offer same-day or next-day removal van services for Catford customers dealing with urgent moves, last-minute tenancy changes or unexpected clearances. Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a removal van in Catford cost?
The cost of hiring our removal van service in Catford depends on the size of the move, access at both properties, distance travelled and how many movers you need. Smaller local moves may be priced on an hourly basis, while larger house or office moves are usually quoted as a fixed price. To give you an accurate figure, we ask for details such as number of rooms, bulky items, and any parking or stair issues. We then provide a clear written estimate with no hidden extras for standard work.
Can you provide same-day or urgent removal van services?
Yes, we can often help with same-day or urgent moves in Catford, depending on availability. If your plans have changed suddenly, or you have been let down by another mover, contact us as early in the day as possible. We will check our schedule, the size of van required and the distance involved. If we can reasonably fit your move in without compromising quality or safety, we will offer a realistic time slot and clear price. For the best choice of times, advance booking is always recommended.
What insurance cover do you provide?
Our removal van service includes goods in transit insurance to protect your belongings while they are in our care, along with public liability cover for work at your property. These policies are designed for normal domestic and light commercial moves and are subject to standard terms, conditions and limits. We handle your possessions carefully to minimise the chance of any issues, but insurance is there for unexpected events. If you have particularly high-value items, let us know in advance so we can discuss the best way to protect them.
What is included in your removal van service?
Our standard service includes the removal van, fuel, a trained moving team, protective blankets, straps and careful loading and unloading of your belongings. We place items into the rooms you specify and can dismantle and reassemble straightforward furniture if agreed in advance. Optional extras include packing services, packing materials and storage arrangements. Parking fees, congestion and clean air zone charges are explained clearly if they apply. We outline all inclusions and any potential additional costs in your written quote before you book.
How is a professional removal service different from a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van often provides a vehicle and driver with limited support, while a professional removal service like ours offers structured planning, trained staff and fully insured operations. We carry suitable equipment, know how to handle heavy and fragile items, and are experienced with Catford’s varied properties. You receive a written quote, clear terms and a team that takes responsibility for the whole move rather than just transport. The result is a smoother, safer and more predictable move, especially for full households or business relocations.
How far in advance should I book a removal van in Catford?
For the best choice of dates and times, especially at weekends and month-end, we recommend booking your removal van two to three weeks in advance. That said, we understand that moves do not always follow ideal timescales. We regularly accommodate bookings with much shorter notice, particularly for smaller moves. As soon as you have a confirmed moving date, get in touch and we will discuss availability, carry out any necessary survey and secure your slot. Early contact also allows us to advise on parking suspensions if they are needed.

Renters
We support tenants moving between rented properties, often on tight timeframes. We pay attention to common landlord requirements, helping you leave the property in good order and avoid deposit disputes linked to damage during moving.
Landlords
Landlords use our removal services for clearing properties between tenancies, removing unwanted furniture or preparing a rental for sale. We can coordinate access with agents and provide documentation where needed.
Businesses
For small and medium-sized businesses, we manage office moves, equipment relocation and internal reshuffles. We work to your schedule, including evenings or weekends where agreed, to minimise downtime.
Students
Students moving into or out of halls and shared houses benefit from our cost-effective, smaller-load services. We can move a few boxes, a desk, a bed and personal belongings in a single, efficient trip.
What Our Removal Service Includes
Items Typically Included
We regularly move:

- Electronics – TVs, PCs, monitors, audio equipment
- Personal belongings – clothes, books, ornaments, artwork
- Office furniture – desks, filing cabinets, office chairs, storage
- Boxed items – archive boxes, tools, stock and general household goods
Items We May Exclude or Need to Assess
For safety and regulatory reasons, some items are excluded or require prior agreement:
- Hazardous materials – paints, solvents, gas bottles, fuel, chemicals
- Illegal or stolen goods
- Live animals (including pets) – these must travel separately
- High-value items such as fine art, antiques or jewellery without prior notice
- Heavy machinery or commercial equipment above standard manual handling limits
If you are unsure about a specific item, we will advise during the survey so everything is clear before moving day.
Our Step-by-Step Removal Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
It starts with a conversation. You contact us with basic details: where you’re moving from and to, the size of the property and your ideal dates. We’ll ask a few focused questions, then provide a clear, no-obligation quote outlining what’s included.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For anything more than a very small move, we carry out a survey – either by video call or a short visit. This lets us assess access, parking, staircases, lifts and the volume of belongings. Accurate surveys mean the right vehicle size, crew numbers and timing, avoiding surprises on the day.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can pack your own belongings, or choose our professional packing service. When we pack, we use strong boxes, wrapping materials and labelling so items arrive organised and intact. We can also dismantle beds, wardrobes and other flat-pack furniture where required.
4. Loading & Transport
On moving day, our trained team arrives at the agreed time. We protect floors and banisters as needed, then load the van methodically, securing everything with straps and blankets. Your goods are transported in well-maintained vehicles under goods in transit insurance cover.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new property, we unload with the same care, placing items into the rooms you specify. Where agreed, we reassemble furniture and position larger pieces so you can start settling in straight away.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We believe in clear pricing with no hidden extras. Our quotes are based on:
- Volume of goods and size of property
- Distance between addresses
- Access issues (stairs, long carries, parking restrictions)
- Additional services such as packing, materials, storage or furniture assembly
You’ll receive a written breakdown so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. Any potential additional charges (for example, if key release is significantly delayed) are explained in advance so there are no surprises.
Why Choose Professional Removals Over DIY
Hiring a professional removal service is about more than simply having a van. With us you benefit from:
- Trained staff who know safe lifting techniques and how to protect fragile items
- Specialist equipment – trolleys, blankets, straps and tools for dismantling
- Planned timings to coordinate with key handover or business schedules
- Goods in transit insurance and public liability cover for peace of mind
DIY moves or casual, uninsured man-and-van services can lead to damage, injuries and unexpected delays. Using a structured, insured service significantly reduces these risks.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Your belongings are important, both financially and emotionally. Our work is underpinned by:
- Goods in transit insurance – covering your items while they’re being moved in our vehicles
- Public liability cover – protecting you and your property during our work on-site
- Trained moving teams – staff who are experienced, briefed on each job and follow safe-working practices
We take care to record key details of your move, from addresses and access notes to special handling requirements, so the team arriving on the day is properly prepared.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat your belongings and property as if they were our own. That means using protective covers for furniture where appropriate, wrapping fragile items, and taking care not to mark walls, doors or floors.
Where possible, we reuse sturdy boxes and materials, reducing waste while still keeping your items safe. We also plan routes efficiently to cut unnecessary mileage and emissions. Any unwanted but usable furniture can, by prior arrangement, be taken to local charities or reuse centres in the Catford area.
Common Real-World Use Cases
Moving House Within or From Catford
Whether you’re moving between flats locally or relocating further afield, we manage the entire process, coordinating timings with estate agents and solicitors where needed so your move lines up with key release and completion.
Office Relocation
We assist businesses upgrading offices, consolidating space or moving into co-working environments. We label and position furniture and equipment so your team can resume work with minimal downtime.
Urgent and Short-Notice Moves
Life doesn’t always go to plan. If you need to move quickly due to a change in tenancy, relationship breakdown or sudden sale, we’ll do our best to accommodate urgent requests, subject to crew and vehicle availability.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do removal services in Catford cost?
Costs vary depending on the size of your property, the volume of belongings, distance travelled and any additional services such as packing or furniture dismantling. A small local flat move may be charged on a half-day basis, while larger house or office moves are usually priced as a full-day or multi-day job. After a short consultation and, where necessary, a survey, we provide a clear written quote with no hidden extras, so you know exactly what to budget.
Can you provide same-day or urgent removal services?
We can often help with same-day or short-notice moves, particularly for smaller loads, but it depends on vehicle and crew availability. The more flexibility you have on timing, the easier it is for us to fit you in. If your move is urgent, contact us as early as possible with full details of the addresses, access and what needs moving, and we’ll let you know what options are realistically achievable that day or the next.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Your items are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are in our vehicles, and we carry public liability cover for work at your property. This provides protection in the unlikely event of accidental damage or loss. Some items, such as particularly high-value artwork or jewellery, may require prior declaration or additional cover, so always mention these during your enquiry or survey and we’ll advise on the best approach.
What is included in your removal service?
Our standard removal service includes the vehicle, fuel, a trained moving team, loading, safe transport and unloading into the rooms you specify. We provide protective blankets and securing straps as standard. Optional extras include packing services, supply of packing materials, dismantling and reassembling furniture, and short-term storage. Before you confirm your booking, we’ll clearly list what is and isn’t included so you can add or remove services to suit your needs and budget.
How is a professional removal service different from a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van may simply provide transport and labour, often without clear terms or insurance. Our service is structured and professional: we carry out surveys where needed, plan your move, provide written quotes, and use trained staff, proper equipment and insurance cover. We also take responsibility for protecting your property and belongings, coordinating timings and managing any access challenges. This level of organisation and accountability significantly reduces stress and risk compared with informal options.
How far in advance should I book my removal?
For best availability and smoother planning, we recommend booking your removal at least two to three weeks in advance, especially if you’re moving on a Friday or at month-end, when demand is higher. That said, we understand move dates can change, so we aim to be as flexible as possible. If your move is sooner, contact us as early as you can – even a few days’ notice can be enough for smaller jobs if we have capacity.

- Sofas, beds, wardrobes and household furniture
- Boxes of clothes, books, kitchenware and personal items
- Office desks, chairs, filing cabinets and IT equipment
- Shop stock, marketing materials and event stands
- Bicycles and small leisure equipment
- Bagged or boxed toys, hobby materials and collections
Items We Cannot Store
For safety, legal and insurance reasons, we cannot store:
- Perishable or open food items
- Flammable, explosive or hazardous materials (e.g. petrol, gas bottles, paint thinners)
- Illegal goods or stolen property
- Live animals or plants
- Cash, jewellery or high-value collections better suited to specialist storage
- Unboxed loose liquids or chemicals
If you’re unsure about a particular item, we’ll advise you during the quotation or survey stage.
How Our Storage Process Works
1. Enquiry & Quote
Contact us with a rough list of what you need to store and your timescales. We’ll ask a few simple questions and usually provide an initial guide price the same day. Our quotes are transparent, with no hidden extras.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For larger loads, we arrange a short video call or onsite visit in Catford. This lets us assess access, volume and any delicate or bulky items. From this, we confirm the space required, the level of packing needed and the final price.
3. Packing & Preparation
On the agreed day, our trained team arrives with the right packing materials. We can offer:
- Full packing – we pack everything for you
- Part packing – we handle fragile and large items
- Self-packing – you pack, we collect and protect
Furniture is disassembled where needed and wrapped to protect it in storage.
4. Loading & Transport
Your belongings are loaded carefully onto our vehicles by professional movers using blankets, straps and trolleys. We create clear inventories so you know exactly what is going into storage. Everything is then transported directly to our secure storage partner facilities.
5. Unloading & Placement in Storage
At the facility, items are unloaded and stacked safely, with fragile and heavy pieces positioned correctly. Boxes are labelled and placed so that retrieval is straightforward. When you’re ready for redelivery, we reverse the process and bring your items back to your Catford home or business.
Transparent Storage Pricing
Storage costs are based on three main factors:
- Volume of goods (how much space you need)
- Length of time in storage (short or long term)
- Level of service (collection, packing and redelivery options)
We explain all charges before you book, including collection, storage and return delivery. There are no surprise add-ons. For longer-term storage, we can often offer more favourable monthly rates. All pricing is confirmed in writing so you can plan your budget with confidence.
Why Use Professional Storage Instead of DIY?
Using a professional storage and removals company offers clear advantages over doing it yourself or hiring a casual man-and-van:
- Trained teams know how to pack and stack safely, reducing the risk of damage.
- We supply proper materials – blankets, shrink wrap, wardrobe boxes and sturdy cartons.
- Our service is fully insured, unlike most informal arrangements.
- You avoid multiple trips in a small vehicle and the heavy lifting.
- Inventory and labelling make it easy to find items when you need them back.
In many cases, professional storage works out more cost-effective once you factor in time, fuel, van hire and potential breakages.
Insurance and Professional Standards
We take the safety of your belongings seriously. Our service includes:
- Goods in transit insurance while your items are being moved between Catford and the storage facility
- Public liability cover for work carried out in your home, office or building
- Trained and experienced moving teams who follow industry best practice
We are transparent about cover limits and conditions, and we’ll advise if any individual items may need additional specialist cover.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
Our approach is to protect both your belongings and the environment:
- Use of reusable transit blankets and durable crates where possible
- Recycling of cardboard and packing materials after use
- Careful route planning around Catford to reduce unnecessary mileage
- Guidance on preparing items for storage to minimise waste and damage
We treat your possessions as if they were our own, ensuring everything is clean, dry and prepared correctly before going into storage.
Real-World Storage Use Cases
Moving House with Gaps Between Tenancies
Many Catford clients use storage when their sale completes before their purchase. We collect from the old property, store everything securely, and deliver to the new address on your completion date.
Office Relocations and Refits
Businesses often need temporary space for furniture and equipment during refurbishments or relocations. We can phase collections and deliveries to match your project schedule, minimising downtime.
Urgent or Short-Notice Storage
Sometimes circumstances change quickly – a tenancy ends, a builder starts early, or a relationship breakdown occurs. Where possible, we offer short-notice and same-day collections in Catford, subject to availability and facility capacity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does storage in Catford cost?
Storage costs depend on how much space you need, how long you need it for, and whether you require collection, packing and redelivery. Smaller loads for a few weeks will naturally be cheaper than a full house in long-term storage. We usually quote a weekly or monthly rate, plus a clear fee for collection and final delivery. To give you an accurate figure, we’ll ask for a list of items or carry out a quick survey, then provide a written, no-obligation quote.
Can you offer same-day or urgent storage?
Where we have availability, we do our best to provide same-day or short-notice storage collections in Catford. This is particularly common when tenants must move out quickly or building work starts earlier than expected. The sooner you contact us, the better the chance we can allocate a team and space. We’ll discuss what you need to store, access to the property and timings, then confirm whether we can attend the same day or offer the earliest possible slot.
Are my belongings insured while in storage?
Your items are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are being moved between your property and the storage facility. The storage facility itself will also have its own insurance and security measures such as CCTV, alarms and controlled access. We’ll explain the standard cover limits and any exclusions before you book. If you have particularly high-value items, we may recommend additional specialist insurance or an updated home or business insurance policy to ensure full protection.
What’s included in your storage service?
Our standard storage service includes collection from your Catford address, careful loading, transport to a secure facility, and safe stacking of your items in storage. We provide basic protection such as blankets and wrapping for furniture, and we create an inventory of what’s stored. You can add optional services such as full packing, packing materials supply, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and redelivery on a specific date. All inclusions are listed clearly in your written quotation so you know exactly what to expect.
How is your service different from a basic man-and-van?
While a casual man-and-van might simply turn up with a vehicle, our service is a structured, professional operation. We offer trained movers, proper packing materials, written quotes, and both goods in transit insurance and public liability cover. We also manage the relationship with the storage facility, handle inventories and plan loading so items remain safe for long periods. This reduces the risk of damage, confusion over what’s stored, and unexpected costs that can arise with informal providers.
How far in advance should I book storage?
Ideally, you should book as soon as you know you’ll need storage, especially during busy moving periods such as summer and month-end. A week or two’s notice usually allows us to offer you the most convenient dates and times. However, we understand that plans can change quickly, so we also accommodate short-notice requests whenever possible. Even if your exact move or return date is uncertain, we can reserve space and adjust the schedule as your situation becomes clearer.

Our Step-by-Step Packing and Moving Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
Contact us by phone or online with your moving date, addresses and a rough idea of what you need packed. We discuss your requirements, such as full or partial packing, supply of boxes only, or packing plus move. We then provide a clear, no-obligation estimate outlining the expected time, crew size and material costs.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For larger properties or more complex moves, we recommend a survey. This can be a video call or an in-person visit in Catford. We assess access, parking, volume of belongings and any fragile or unusually heavy items. The survey allows us to recommend the most efficient packing plan and finalise your quote with no hidden extras.
3. Packing & Preparation
On the agreed day, our trained team arrives on time with all necessary materials. We protect floors where needed, then pack room by room, labelling each box with contents and destination room in the new property. Fragile items receive extra padding and clear marking. If we are also moving you, we make sure essential items you need access to are boxed and labelled appropriately.
4. Loading & Transport
If you have booked our removals service as well as packing, we load boxes and furniture in a planned order to minimise handling and protect fragile items. Everything is secured using straps and removal blankets in our vehicles. Our fully insured vans are suitable for Catford’s streets and comply with all relevant regulations.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new address, we unload boxes into the correct rooms based on the labels. Furniture is reassembled where agreed, and we place items where you want them. If you have booked unpacking, we can also unbox and place contents on surfaces or into cupboards, and remove used packing materials for recycling where possible.
Transparent Pricing for Packing and Boxes in Catford
We believe in clear, straightforward pricing. Costs are based on:
- Volume of items to be packed
- Type of service – full, partial, or boxes-only
- Number of staff required and estimated time
- Materials used – boxes, bubble wrap, covers and tape
Before you commit, you receive a written quotation detailing labour and materials separately where appropriate. If your requirements change, we explain any price adjustments in advance. There are no surprise charges on moving day.
Why Use Professional Packers Instead of DIY or Casual Man-and-Van?
Many people begin packing themselves and quickly realise how time-consuming and physically demanding it is. Using a professional packing and boxes service offers several advantages:
- Correct materials and methods reduce the risk of breakages.
- Experienced packers work faster and more systematically.
- Your move is more organised, with clearly labelled boxes.
- Less physical strain and stress on you and your family.
- Better integration with the removals process, avoiding delays.
A casual man-and-van service may not provide adequate packing, protection or insurance. With Man and Van Catford, your belongings are prepared and handled to recognised industry standards.
Insurance and Professional Standards
Your belongings are important, both financially and emotionally. Our service is supported by:
- Goods in transit insurance – covering your items while they are in our vehicles, subject to policy terms.
- Public liability cover – protecting you and your property during our work on-site.
- Trained moving teams – staff are instructed in safe lifting, protection of furniture, and careful packing techniques.
We handle your possessions as if they were our own, and we are happy to explain what is covered and how to declare any particularly high-value items so they are properly recorded.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We focus on both protection and environmental responsibility:
- Use of high-quality, robust boxes to prevent crushing and splitting.
- Furniture is wrapped in blankets or covers to avoid scuffs and scratches.
- We avoid over-packing boxes to reduce the risk of collapse or injury.
- Where possible, we re-use clean, good-condition boxes and recycle materials after use.
On request, we can collect used boxes after your move so they can be re-used or recycled, helping to reduce waste.
Real-World Uses of Our Packing and Boxes Service
Moving House in or from Catford
Families and individuals often ask us to handle the complete packing of their homes a day or two before moving. This minimises disruption and allows you to keep living normally until close to your move date.
Office or Business Relocation
For local businesses, we can pack outside of working hours or over a weekend, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal downtime. Files, stock and equipment are boxed and labelled so that unpacking is efficient.
Urgent or Short-Notice Moves
Sometimes a move in Catford comes up quickly due to work, tenancy changes or personal circumstances. Subject to availability, we can provide rapid packing support, bringing enough staff to complete the work safely within tight timescales.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does packing and boxes service cost in Catford?
Costs depend on how much you need packed, whether you want a full or partial packing service, and how many materials are required. Smaller flats may only need a few hours of labour and a modest number of boxes, while larger houses or offices require more time and supplies. After discussing your inventory and access, we provide a clear, itemised quote with labour and materials broken down where possible, so you can see exactly what you are paying for before you commit.
Can you offer same-day or urgent packing in Catford?
We can often help with short-notice or urgent packing, particularly for smaller properties or partial packing jobs. Same-day availability depends on our schedule and staff levels, so the earlier you contact us, the better. When we do accept an urgent booking, we ensure we allocate enough professional packers and materials to complete the work safely and to a high standard, rather than rushing. Call us to discuss your timescale and we will advise what is realistically achievable.
Are my belongings insured while being packed and moved?
Yes. We provide goods in transit insurance for your items while they are in our vehicles, and public liability cover while we are working in your property. These policies are designed to protect against unforeseen incidents, subject to their terms and conditions. We always recommend that you tell us about any particularly high-value or unusual items in advance, so we can advise on how they should be documented and handled. We are happy to explain the details of cover before you book.
What exactly is included in your packing and boxes service?
Our service can be tailored, but typically includes supply of suitable boxes and packing materials, professional packing of agreed items, clear labelling of boxes by room and contents, and preparation of furniture with covers or blankets. If we are also providing the removal, it includes safe loading, transport and unloading at your new address. Optional extras include unpacking and removal of used packing materials. Your quotation will list what is included, and you can add or remove elements to suit your budget and timescale.
How is this different from a basic man-and-van service?
A casual man-and-van typically expects you to do all your own packing and may not provide suitable materials, structured planning or adequate insurance. Our service combines professional packing, appropriate protection materials, experienced staff and fully insured vehicles. We plan the job carefully, label everything clearly, and coordinate packing with the move itself. This reduces the risk of damage, avoids delays on moving day, and offers a more reliable, accountable service than an informal, transport-only option.
How far in advance should I book packing and boxes in Catford?
For the best choice of dates, we recommend booking as soon as your move date is reasonably certain, ideally two to four weeks in advance. This allows time for a survey if required, and for us to order any specialist materials. However, we understand that not all moves are planned this far ahead. We regularly accommodate shorter notice bookings where our schedule allows. Even if your date is close, it is worth contacting us, as we may still be able to help or offer flexible options.

- Renters – Relocating flat-based offices or live-work spaces.
- Landlords – Clearing or setting up furnished offices or workspaces.
- Businesses – From small startups to established multi-department offices.
- Students – Shifting study setups, desks and IT equipment between halls and rentals.
Whatever your set-up, we adapt the move plan and vehicle size to suit.
What’s Included in Our Office Removals
Our Catford office removals cover most items typically found in a modern workplace, including:
- Desks, chairs, boardroom tables and office furniture
- Filing cabinets and storage units (empty or pre-agreed loaded)
- Desktop PCs, monitors, laptops and peripherals
- Phones, printers, copiers and small office machinery
- Servers, racks and network equipment (with suitable preparation)
- Archive boxes, files and general office contents
- Kitchenette items such as kettles, microwaves and small fridges
We supply protective materials and, if requested, a full packing service to save your staff time.
What We Cannot Move
For safety, legal and insurance reasons, some items are excluded from our standard office removals service:
- Hazardous materials (chemicals, solvents, gas bottles, flammables)
- Large industrial machinery requiring specialist lifting
- Biological or medical waste
- High-value cash, confidential bearer instruments, or jewellery
- Live animals or plants in bulk
If you are unsure about a particular item, let us know during the survey. We can often recommend a suitable specialist, or work alongside them.
Our Step-by-Step Office Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You begin by contacting Man and Van Catford with the basic details: current and new addresses, approximate size of office, access notes, and your preferred moving dates. We discuss your priorities – such as minimising downtime or splitting the move into phases – and provide an initial, no-obligation estimate.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
We then carry out a survey of your office, either via video call or onsite in Catford and nearby areas. This lets us understand access, lift use, parking restrictions, staircases, and any delicate or bulky items. The survey forms the basis of your detailed quote and move plan, so we can allocate the right size vehicle, team and protection materials.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can choose from:
- Full packing service – We provide materials and pack everything, including IT, files and kitchenware.
- Part packing service – We pack fragile or high-value items; your team packs the rest.
- Self-pack – We supply boxes and materials; you pack ahead of move day.
We label crates and boxes clearly by department, desk or room to ensure smooth unloading at your new office.
4. Loading & Transport
On move day, our trained team arrives on time with the agreed materials and vehicle. We protect floors, doors and lifts where necessary, then systematically dismantle and load furniture, IT and contents. Everything is wrapped and secured for transport. Your items are covered by our goods in transit insurance while in our care.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new premises, we unload and place items according to the plan agreed at survey stage. Desks and furniture are reassembled, crates are set out by team or department, and IT equipment is positioned ready for your technicians to reconnect. We tidy up packaging and check each area with you before we leave.
Transparent Office Removals Pricing
We believe in clear, upfront pricing. Our quotes are based on:
- Volume of furniture and equipment
- Access at both properties (stairs, lifts, distance to parking)
- Travel distance and any congestion or parking charges
- Level of packing service required
- Number of removal staff and vehicles needed
- Out-of-hours or weekend requirements
You receive a written quote detailing what is included, so you can budget with confidence. There are no surprise extras on the day, provided the scope remains as agreed.
Why Choose Professional Office Removals Over DIY
Office moves are more complex than they appear. Attempting a DIY move or using a casual man-with-van risks damage to equipment, lost files and disorganised unpacking. Our professional removal service brings:
- Experienced planners who understand building management and access rules
- Systematic labelling and handling to avoid misplaced items
- Correct lifting techniques to protect both staff and furniture
- Specialist equipment such as sack trucks, dollies and protective covers
- Insurance-backed protection for your goods in transit
By using a dedicated removals team, you reduce downtime, avoid staff injuries, and move with far less stress.
Insurance & Professional Standards
Man and Van Catford operates to recognised industry standards. We maintain:
- Goods in transit insurance – Covering your office furniture and equipment while they are being moved.
- Public liability cover – Protecting against accidental damage to third-party property or injury caused by our work.
- Trained moving teams – Staff are briefed on handling IT equipment, manual handling safety, and building etiquette.
We are happy to provide evidence of cover for your building management or landlord if required.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We treat your office equipment as if it were our own. Items are wrapped, padded and secured in the vehicle, and we use floor protection and corner guards in higher-risk areas. Where possible, we use reusable crates and durable materials to reduce waste, and we encourage re-use of boxes for archives or storage. We also plan routes efficiently to limit unnecessary mileage, helping to minimise our environmental impact.
Real-World Office Removal Use Cases
- Full office relocation – Moving your entire team to a new building in or out of Catford, often over a weekend to avoid downtime.
- Internal moves – Rearranging departments between floors, or consolidating space after a re-structure.
- Start-up and small business moves – Relocating from co-working spaces to dedicated offices, or upgrading to larger premises.
- Hybrid and home-working shifts – Moving equipment from shared offices to home-based workspaces.
- Urgent and short-notice moves – Last-minute lease changes, emergency building issues, or fast-growing teams.
Whatever the scenario, we build a plan that fits your timescale and operational needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do office removals in Catford cost?
Costs depend on the size of your office, the volume of equipment and furniture, access at each property and the distance travelled. Smaller offices may be priced on a fixed fee, while larger or multi-day moves are usually based on the number of vehicles and staff required. Packing services, crate hire and out-of-hours working will also affect the final price. After a short discussion and survey, we provide a clear written quote so you know exactly what is included before you commit.
Can you handle same-day or urgent office moves?
Where our schedule allows, we do offer same-day or short-notice office removals in and around Catford. Availability will depend on team and vehicle capacity, as well as the size and complexity of your move. For urgent relocations, we may suggest a phased approach: essential items first, followed by less critical equipment. Contact us as soon as you know you need to move, and we will be honest about what is possible and how we can minimise disruption for your staff.
Are my office items insured during the move?
Yes. Your office furniture and equipment are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are in our vehicles, and we hold public liability cover for work in and around buildings. It is still wise to check your own business insurance for any specific high-value items or specialist machinery. We can provide policy details for your insurer, landlord or building management if needed. Our team handles your items carefully, but proper cover means everyone is protected if the unexpected occurs.
What is included in your office removals service?
Our standard office removals service includes loading, transport and unloading of your office furniture, equipment and boxed contents between the agreed addresses. We dismantle and reassemble standard desks and frames where needed, and place items into the correct rooms or departments. You can add services such as packing, supply of crates and boxes, out-of-hours working, and disposal of unwanted furniture by prior agreement. Everything that is included will be clearly itemised in your written quotation so there is no confusion on move day.
How is a professional removals service different from a casual man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van often focuses purely on transport, with limited planning, protection and documentation. A professional removals service like ours offers a structured survey, a written quote, fully insured operations, and trained crews who understand office environments. We bring the correct equipment, protect your premises, label items for easy reassembly, and coordinate with building management where required. This significantly reduces the risk of damage, delays and confusion, and gives you a clear point of responsibility throughout the move.
How far in advance should I book an office removal?
For most office moves, four to six weeks’ notice is ideal, especially if you need a specific weekend or evening slot. This allows time for surveys, building approvals, crate delivery and staff communication. However, we understand that businesses do not always have that luxury. If your timescale is shorter, contact us as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you. The sooner we are involved, the easier it is to plan an efficient, low-disruption move.

Local Expertise in Catford
Based in Catford, we know the local streets, estates and parking restrictions extremely well. That local knowledge matters when you’re dealing with tight access, controlled parking zones and busy main roads like Catford Road and Bromley Road.
We plan routes around traffic, advise on parking suspensions where needed, and understand the layouts of many local blocks and houses. That means fewer delays, less stress on the day and a smoother move from start to finish.

Homeowners
Perfect for moving between smaller houses, bungalows or flats, or for moving bulky items during renovations. We can handle white goods, wardrobes, beds and garden items, taking care to protect both your belongings and your property.

Businesses
From small offices to local shops, our man with a van service is ideal for moving desks, stock, equipment and archive boxes. We work to your timetable to minimise downtime and disruption.

What We Can and Can’t Move
Items Typically Included
- Household furniture – sofas, beds, tables, wardrobes, chests
- Domestic appliances – washing machines, fridges, freezers, cookers
- Boxes, bags and suitcases
- IT equipment and office furniture
- Sports equipment, bikes and hobby items
- Well-packed fragile items (glass, mirrors, artwork) with prior notice
Items We Cannot Transport
For legal, safety and insurance reasons, there are some things we cannot carry:
- Hazardous materials (fuel, gas bottles, solvents, chemicals)
- Illegal goods of any kind
- Unsecured loose liquids (paint tins, open containers)
- Animals and live plants in bulk (individual houseplants can be discussed)
- Industrial machinery beyond van capacity or safe handling weight
If you are unsure about a particular item, please ask in advance so we can advise or suggest an alternative solution.
Our Step-by-Step Moving Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us with the details of your move – addresses, dates, list of items and any access issues. We ask the right questions to understand your requirements clearly, then provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on time, distance and the size of van and crew required.
2. Survey (Virtual or Onsite)
For anything more than a very small move, we recommend a quick virtual or onsite survey. This allows us to assess access, parking, stairs, lift availability and item sizes. Getting this right in advance helps us send the correct size van, enough movers and the right equipment.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can choose to pack your own items or add a packing service. If you pack yourself, we’ll advise on suitable boxes, labelling and protecting fragile items. On the day, we bring protective blankets, straps and tools for simple disassembly and reassembly where agreed.
4. Loading & Transport
Our trained team loads the van systematically, securing items to minimise movement and protect them in transit. We treat your belongings as we would our own, paying particular attention to corners, finishes and fragile pieces. We then transport them directly to your new address using sensible, pre-planned routes.
5. Unloading & Placement
At the destination, we unload and place items in the rooms you request, not just in the hallway. Where agreed, we can reassemble beds and simple furniture. Before we leave, we check that everything listed has been delivered and placed where you need it.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We believe in clear, upfront pricing with no hidden extras. Our man with a van Catford service is usually priced on either:
- An hourly rate (with a minimum charge), ideal for local, flexible jobs
- A fixed price for clearly defined moves with known contents and distances
We explain what is and isn’t included, such as congestion charges, parking costs or additional labour for dismantling. You will always know what you are paying for before we start the job.
Why Choose Professional Man with a Van Over DIY
Hiring a professional man with a van service offers several advantages over doing it yourself or using a casual, unvetted driver:
- Experience: We handle awkward stairwells, heavy items and tight doorways safely.
- Proper equipment: We use trolleys, blankets and straps to protect both your items and the building.
- Fully insured: Your goods are covered under our goods in transit insurance.
- Reliability: Confirmed booking, arrival on time and clear communication.
- Less stress: You are not relying on borrowed vehicles or untrained helpers.
Insurance and Professional Standards
As a removals company, not just a casual operator, we maintain robust protection and standards:
- Goods in transit insurance to cover your belongings while they are in our care and on our vehicles.
- Public liability cover to protect against accidental damage to property or third parties.
- Trained moving teams who understand safe lifting techniques, packing methods and customer care.
Details of cover can be provided on request, and we are always happy to explain how it applies to your particular move.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We approach each move with care and respect. Floors, doors and bannisters are protected where necessary, and fragile items are wrapped and positioned carefully. We aim to avoid damage not only to your possessions but also to your old and new homes.
On the sustainability side, we aim to use reusable blankets and containers where possible, minimise unnecessary trips by planning routes sensibly, and can advise on responsible disposal or reuse of unwanted items through local charities and recycling centres.
Real-World Use Cases
Moving House Within Catford
Many of our customers are moving between flats or small houses in Catford and the surrounding areas. Our man with a van service is often all they need – a practical, flexible option that keeps costs reasonable while still providing a professional move.
Office and Shop Relocations
For smaller businesses, a full-scale corporate removals team can be unnecessary. Our service covers desks, chairs, stock, shelving and equipment, scheduled outside normal working hours if required to reduce disruption.
Urgent and Same-Day Moves
Life does not always run to plan. Where our schedule allows, we accommodate same-day or short-notice moves, particularly for smaller jobs and single items. We’ll always be honest about what’s achievable and aim to provide a safe, reliable solution rather than over-promising.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a man with a van in Catford cost?
Pricing depends on the size of van, number of movers, distance travelled and how long the job will take. For local Catford moves, many customers choose an hourly rate with a minimum booking period. For clearly defined moves with a set inventory, we can usually offer a fixed price. Your quote will outline exactly what’s included, such as labour, fuel and any congestion or parking charges, so you know the full cost before confirming.
Can you do same-day or urgent man with a van jobs?
Yes, subject to availability. If you need a same-day or urgent move, it’s best to call us as early as possible so we can check our schedule and allocate a suitable van and team. We regularly accommodate short-notice student moves, small flat moves and urgent furniture collections. While we can’t guarantee availability for every request, we’ll always be clear about what we can realistically do without compromising safety or standards.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Your items are protected by our goods in transit insurance while they are being loaded, transported and unloaded. We also hold public liability cover for additional peace of mind. Insurance has sensible limits and conditions, so we encourage you to tell us about any particularly high-value or fragile items in advance. We can then confirm cover, recommend appropriate packing and, if necessary, suggest extra precautions for those specific pieces.
What’s included in your man with a van service?
Our standard service includes a suitable van, an experienced driver-mover, loading and unloading, protective blankets and securing straps. We place items in the rooms you specify at the destination, not just at the door. Optional extras include additional movers, packing services, furniture dismantling and reassembly by prior agreement. Any likely charges such as congestion or parking fees will be explained in your quote, so you have a complete picture of what’s included before you book.
What’s the difference between your service and a basic man-and-van?
We operate as a professional removals company offering a man with a van service, rather than a casual, part-time operator. That means fully insured moves, trained staff, proper equipment and a clear, written quote. We survey jobs in advance where needed, plan routes and parking, and turn up on time with the right vehicle. In short, you get the flexibility of a man-and-van with the standards and protection of a reputable removals firm.
How far in advance should I book?
For weekends and month-end dates, we recommend booking at least one to two weeks ahead, especially in busy periods such as summer. For midweek or smaller jobs, we can often accommodate bookings with just a few days’ notice. If you have a fixed moving date, it’s wise to secure your slot as soon as you know it. That way we can plan properly, carry out any necessary survey and ensure we allocate the right van and team for your move.

Our Step-by-Step Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us by phone or email with your move details: current and new address, property type, dates and any special requirements. We’ll ask relevant questions and then provide a clear, no-obligation quote outlining what’s included so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For larger or more complex moves, we carry out a survey. This can be via video call or an onsite visit in Catford or nearby. We assess access, parking, staircases, lifts and volume of items. This helps us allocate the right van size, number of trained movers and time required, avoiding last-minute surprises.
3. Packing & Preparation
You can choose from:
- Packing service – we supply materials and our professional team packs your items securely.
- Part-packing – we handle fragile items like glassware, pictures and TVs; you pack the rest.
- Self-packing – you pack everything; we provide guidance on best practice if needed.
On move day we protect floors, banisters and doors as required, and carefully dismantle agreed items such as beds and wardrobes.
4. Loading & Transport
Our trained team loads your belongings methodically, using blankets, straps and protective covers. Everything is secured in the vehicle to minimise movement during transit. We use well-maintained vans suitable for London streets and longer UK journeys, and we plan routes with traffic and access in mind.
5. Unloading & Placement
At your new property, we unload everything into the rooms you specify. We reassemble any furniture that we dismantled and make sure key items are in place before we leave. We’re happy to move items once or twice within reason so you’re comfortable with the layout.
Transparent Pricing From a Local Removal Company
We believe in clear, honest pricing. Our quotes are typically based on:
- Volume of goods to be moved
- Access at both addresses (stairs, lifts, distance to van)
- Travel distance and expected journey time
- Number of professional movers required
- Any additional services such as packing, materials or dismantling
Where possible we offer a fixed price for the job, agreed in advance. For smaller or more flexible moves, we may suggest an hourly rate with clear minimum charges. There are no hidden extras; any potential additional costs (such as waiting time caused by delayed keys) are explained up front.
Why Choose a Professional Removal Company Over DIY
Hiring a professional removal company like Man and Van Catford offers several advantages over DIY moves or casual, unregistered man-and-van services:
- Safety – Correct lifting techniques and equipment reduce the risk of injury to you and damage to your property.
- Efficiency – Experienced movers load and unload far faster and more systematically.
- Protection – Proper blankets, covers and straps keep your belongings secure in transit.
- Insurance – Your goods are covered by our policies (within agreed limits).
- Reliability – Confirmed bookings, written quotes and professional communication.
DIY may appear cheaper at first glance, but once you factor in van hire, fuel, lost time, potential damage and stress, a removal company is often the more practical, cost-effective option.
Insurance and Professional Standards
We take our responsibilities seriously and operate to recognised industry standards. Our service includes:
- Goods in transit insurance – Cover for your belongings while they are being moved, subject to terms and value limits.
- Public liability cover – Protection in the unlikely event of accidental damage to third-party property or injury.
- Trained moving teams – Our staff are trained in safe handling, packing and loading techniques.
We’ll explain our cover clearly when quoting, and can provide details on request so you know exactly how your items are protected.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
Looking after your belongings and the environment is central to how we work:
- We use quality protective materials – blankets, mattress covers and TV covers – to reduce the risk of damage.
- We plan loads carefully to avoid over-stacking or crushing items.
- Where possible, we reuse boxes and packing materials in good condition to reduce waste.
- We consolidate journeys when we can and maintain our vehicles to run efficiently.
We treat your possessions as if they were our own, taking the time to do the job properly rather than rushing.
Real-World Removal Scenarios We Handle
Moving House in Catford and Beyond

Urgent and Short-Notice Moves
Sometimes moves arise at short notice – tenancy changes, relationship breakdowns, unexpected completion dates. Subject to availability, we offer same-day or next-day removals, prioritising safety and organisation even when timelines are tight.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do removals in Catford typically cost?
The cost of a removal in Catford depends on several factors: the size of your property, volume of belongings, distance between addresses, access at each property and whether you need packing or dismantling services. Smaller flat moves locally may be charged on an hourly rate, while full house moves are often priced as a fixed quote. Once we’ve gathered the key details, we provide a clear written estimate with no hidden extras, so you can budget confidently and compare like-for-like with other removal companies.
Can you handle same-day or urgent removals?
We can often accommodate same-day or urgent moves in and around Catford, depending on our schedule and the scale of the job. Smaller flat or room moves are usually easier to fit in at short notice than full house or business relocations. If you need an urgent move, contact us as early in the day as possible with full details. We’ll be honest about what’s realistic, and if we can help, we’ll give you a clear time window and cost before confirming the booking.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes, your belongings are covered by our goods in transit insurance while they are being moved in our vehicles, within the limits and conditions of our policy. We also hold public liability cover for added protection. We’ll explain what’s included, any exclusions, and recommended packing standards to ensure cover applies. Very high-value or unusual items may need to be declared in advance, and in some cases you may choose to arrange additional cover through your own insurer for complete peace of mind.
What is included in your removals service?
Our standard removals service includes loading your belongings, safe transport between addresses and unloading into your new property. We provide professional movers, protective blankets and securing straps as standard. We can also add services such as packing, supplying boxes and materials, dismantling and reassembling furniture, and disposing of unwanted items by prior agreement. During quoting, we’ll confirm exactly what is and isn’t included so that expectations are clear and there are no surprises on move day.
What’s the difference between you and a basic man-and-van service?
While we began with smaller moves, we now operate as a structured removal company rather than an informal man-and-van. The key differences are planning, insurance and standards. We provide written quotes, formal bookings, trained staff, goods in transit insurance, public liability cover and the right equipment for safe moving. A basic man-and-van may be cheaper for very small, low-risk jobs, but for full home or office moves, using a professional removal company significantly reduces risk, stress and the chance of costly damage.
How far in advance should I book my removal?
For moves in busy periods such as Fridays, month-end and summer, we recommend booking as soon as you have a confirmed date – ideally two to four weeks in advance for full house or office moves. Smaller flat or student moves can sometimes be arranged with less notice, especially mid-week. If your dates are uncertain due to a property chain, we can still provide an estimate and pencil in a provisional slot. The more notice you give, the more flexibility we have with timing and pricing.

Local Catford Expertise You Can Rely On
Working daily in and around Catford means we know the local roads, parking restrictions and building layouts extremely well. From busy streets near Catford and Catford Bridge stations to residential roads off Bromley Road and the Corbett Estate, we plan sensible access and timing to avoid unnecessary delays.
Our drivers and porters are used to dealing with controlled parking zones, tight staircases in period conversions, and lift access in modern developments. That local knowledge helps us protect your belongings and keep disruption to neighbours to a minimum.
Our Step-by-Step Removals Process
1. Enquiry & Quote
You contact us with your moving details – current address, destination, approximate move date and what needs moving. We ask clear, practical questions so we can understand the volume of items, access, and any special requirements. Based on this, we provide a transparent, no-obligation quote outlining what is included, any optional extras, and likely timings.
2. Survey – Virtual or Onsite
For anything more than a very small move, we recommend a survey. This can often be done by video call or photos, or we can visit in person for larger homes or offices. The survey allows us to assess volume, fragile or bulky items, staircases, parking and any disassembly required. Accurate surveys reduce the risk of surprises on the day and help ensure we send the right size vehicle and team.
3. Packing & Preparation
We offer flexible options:
- Full packing service – we supply materials and pack everything for you
- Part packing – we pack fragile or high-value items; you do the rest
- Self-packing – you pack, and we handle the loading and transport
We use sturdy boxes, wrapping, and professional techniques to protect furniture, TVs, mirrors and artwork. Wardrobe boxes can be provided for hanging clothes where needed.
4. Loading & Transport
On moving day, our trained team arrives on time, walks through the plan with you, and begins loading. Floors, banisters and doors are protected where required. Items are carried safely, stacked securely in the vehicle, and tied or padded to prevent movement in transit. Your belongings are then transported directly to your new address, or via storage if agreed.
5. Unloading & Placement
At the destination, we unload and place items into the rooms you specify. Assembled furniture is set down where you want it, and clearly labelled boxes are placed in the correct rooms to make unpacking easier. We will not leave until the agreed items are offloaded and you are satisfied that everything has been delivered in the correct place.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We believe in clear, straightforward pricing. Typical factors affecting cost include:
- Property size and volume of items
- Distance between addresses
- Access issues (stairs, long carries, parking restrictions)
- Level of service – self-packed, part-packed or full packing
- Day and time (standard weekdays, evenings, or weekends)
We usually price by a fixed quote for the whole move, based on an accurate assessment, rather than open-ended hourly guessing. Any potential extra charges (for example, storage, parking costs, or additional collections) are discussed in advance so you know where you stand.
Why Choose Professional Removals Over DIY
Hiring a professional removals company is about more than just a van. Compared to DIY or casual man-and-van options, you benefit from:
- Trained staff who know safe lifting techniques and how to handle awkward furniture
- Proper tools – trolleys, blankets, straps and covers to protect your items and property
- Reliable timings, agreed in advance, rather than hoping friends show up
- Planned approach to packing and loading, reducing damage and breakages
- Goods in transit insurance to cover your belongings during the move
Many people underestimate the physical and organisational effort involved in moving. Using experienced movers helps prevent injuries, vehicle problems, and last-minute stress, while giving you more time to focus on utilities, keys and settling in.
Insurance & Professional Standards
Your belongings are important, both financially and emotionally. We operate to clear, professional standards to protect them:
- Goods in transit insurance – covers your items while they are in our vehicles
- Public liability cover – protects against accidental damage to third-party property
- Trained moving teams – staff are instructed in safe handling, loading, and protection methods
We handle your belongings as if they were our own, keeping communication open throughout the move. Any specific concerns or high-value items can be discussed beforehand so we can give them extra attention.
Care, Protection and Sustainability
We place strong emphasis on careful handling and responsible working practices. Furniture and appliances are wrapped or covered where appropriate, and we take care to avoid marks on walls, doors and floors. Vehicles are loaded to minimise movement, using blankets and straps to keep items stable.
Where possible, we reuse durable packing materials and encourage customers to return good-quality boxes for future moves. We also plan routes sensibly to reduce unnecessary mileage and fuel use. This practical approach keeps costs reasonable and supports more sustainable working.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do removals in Catford typically cost?
Costs vary depending on property size, distance, access and the level of service you choose. A small flat move within Catford will usually be at the lower end, while a larger house move with full packing will cost more. We prefer to give a fixed quote after a brief survey so you know exactly what to budget for. There are no hidden extras – any potential additional costs, such as parking charges or storage fees, are discussed up front before you commit.
Can you handle same-day or urgent removals?
Yes, we can often accommodate same-day or short-notice moves, especially within Catford and nearby areas, depending on existing bookings. If you need an urgent move, contact us as early as you can with clear details of what needs moving, where from and to, and your time constraints. We will check our schedule and be honest about what is achievable. Even at short notice, we still work methodically to protect your belongings and keep the move organised.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. We provide goods in transit insurance to cover your items while they are being transported in our vehicles, and public liability cover for accidental damage to third-party property. This is not a substitute for your own contents insurance, but it does give an important layer of protection. We also focus on prevention: careful wrapping, sensible loading and trained staff. Any particularly valuable or unusual items should be mentioned in advance so we can confirm cover and plan appropriate handling.
What is included in your removals service as standard?
As standard, our removals service includes a suitable vehicle, professional movers, loading, transport and unloading at your new address. We protect furniture and property where required, and place items into the rooms you request. Optional extras include packing services, disassembly and reassembly of furniture, provision of packing materials, and short- or long-term storage. Before you book, we provide a clear breakdown of what is and is not included so there are no surprises on moving day.
What is the difference between your removals service and a basic man-and-van?
A casual man-and-van service typically offers just a vehicle and a driver, often without formal training or insurance. Our removals service is a structured, fully insured operation with trained staff, proper equipment, planned loading, and clear communication from enquiry to completion. We assess access, protect your belongings, and work to agreed timings. This reduces the risk of damage, delays and disputes. For small, simple moves a basic van may suffice, but for most households and businesses, a professional removals service offers far more reassurance.
How far in advance should I book my removal?
Ideally, you should book as soon as you have a confirmed moving date, especially if you are moving at the end of the month, during school holidays, or on a weekend. Two to four weeks’ notice is common, but we regularly accommodate shorter notice where our schedule allows. Early booking gives you better choice of dates and more time to prepare. Even if your date is not fully fixed, it is worth discussing provisional plans so we can advise on availability and options.
